3rd gen is going bye
3rd gen is going bye
and not for a
BMW like the rest of the ex-3rd gen guys
of course theres always a story to it, along with the crankshaft problems and leaks, my trans is going. its sudden and i never saw it coming
so the power steering system, trans, and engine would need replacing. doable, but it wouldnt be the same to me and again it would be a 3000lb FWD sedan. so most likely a guy here is going to take it, his brother in law rear ended someone in his 92 pebble beige and he could use the parts. if not, just going to the scrapper
new car is a '79 MK1 Supra 5spd SOHC 4M-E with 212,000km on it. been in the province since day 1, all records with original receipt and such, and all major maintenance done. timing belt done about 60k ago, all 6 new injectors done not even a year ago, full fluid flush, new brakes, really pretty much everything.
guys uncle owned it first and he got it a few years ago and sat for the last few years. been repainted twice, has seen rain no more than 25 times since '79, and no rust or body dings. just the seats have some rips. went for a ride and it feels great all the way to redline and its smooth, just needs the AC pulley replaced because it squeaks a bit. last inspection came out immaculate but another is getting done
paid for it in full today, picking it up the 18th for the 2 hour drive home. 3rd gen is going for one last rip Friday (hopefully the trans or engine doesnt blow lol) and thats it

if you put a 1jz or 1.5jz in that thing, I will personally hunt you down, take your car, and give it the proper care it deserves(blowing it up).
if you swap, your choices are: 2jz, xUZ.

so much so that my maxima's very engine is getting turned sideways and going into its new home.
Just last night, I read a Super Street about a Canadian street legal 1000 hp turbo Supra with it's original engine. The owner opted not to put a JZ in it. I wonder will you get that crazy?
Murano? Although it's classified as an SUV
Which car?
Which car?
the guy doesnt want it anymore, hes getting rid of his 3rd gen too because its too much work to fix it
just going to call one of those places that gives you $100+ for scrap cars, tomorrow night im going to have fun
just hoping the crank pulley doesnt break off. then Saturday i think is when its going away
no 1JZ yet, might later on though

Benny youre the smart Toyota guyso with the AC squeak, he said its nothing major just a $100 fix. he said its definitely not the clutch, the squeak goes away driving and quiets if you crank the power steering all the way to one side not moving
worried if its the AC compressor (doubt it i guess) but if it is, only choice is the dealership which is $600ish parts alone or rebuild it
worst case can you bypass the AC? i never use it. asked one of the guys at work and he said if its the bearing i cant bypass the AC? text him to double check what it is, but i want to take care of it as soon as the cars home

I've never owned anything that wasn't Nissan, maybe that's not such a good thing. I get so much props from Maxima guys around here (CT & Ma) that giving up my VE would be like fading into obscurity. They like a nicely kept 3rd gen around these here parts, so I'm motivated to keep it going.

first, don't call me "Benny" (i lul'd tho)
second, I'm not a toyota guy, I'm an anti-honduh guy (s2k and nsx are obvious exceptions...).
if it's anything like the 5m and 7m motors, the ac compressor gets it's own belt, that doesn't do anything else.
then again, if it's anything like most other 70's-80's car, the ac belt won't do anything else.
you should be fine, until you decide to get it fixed.
as far as the actual ac system
not a hac guy.

as much as i love the 3rd gen, its going to be no life for it sitting for 6+ months. with a new engine and trans, it wont have the "soul" it has now, and again its a heavy FWD sedan. Supra, stick a RB20, 1JZ, 4-AGE and we still have a light RWD 2dr car, with IRS like 3rd gens, etc. plus with the rust coming back on the 3rd gen, its just like keeping a 102 year old guy on life support, there comes a time when its just better to let it lay in peace vs. keep going
believe me im going to be a wreck when it goes, tomorrow when i take it out one last time is going to be just as bad.

i know a MR2 guy that works at the dealership and he said his buddy that works there knows about old Toyotas and could do a sidejob maybe
so if it does have its own belt, it shouldnt really affect anything else correct? then im wondering if i can remove the AC system and lose 30-40lbs
Good luck with the new car, it looks like it could be some fun! The burgundy interior is definitely old school.
Yay for Maxima engine => Z swaps

i leghump imports because i dont like domestics but i cant narrow down imports. i like Nissan for Z, Skylines, Cedric, and 240sx/Silvia, Toyota for Supra, Celica, AE86, Mark II, and Aristo, and Mazda for RX3-RX8 and Eunos Cosmo. all are good but i still like Nissan more
i text him and he said that its either the AC clutch or pulley that needs replacing so i'm just going to go to the dealership and get it taken care of
429,000km is pretty good for a engine and auto VG trans, dont forget GXE trans were made for 4 cylinders and they stuck it in a torquey V6

What i've never understood is how all of your posts relate to JDM cars, so much so that most of the members here are aware of it and even joke about it. The ironic thing is you live in Canada of all places and have the mentality of an import nut from the US. It's perfectly legal for you to import any JDM car on your own that is at least 15 years old. Do you just not know how to do it? You can get some awesome low mileage cars for very cheap considering the condition they are in.

my insurance company isnt fond of insuring RHD cars, and im getting a decent rate on the Supra, $40 less a month than the 3rd gen evendo you know what it takes to import something? you have to get it DOT legal, get the paperwork done, get it shipped from BC, and if you get a 180sx or something else of the nature it could have been bagged to **** in Japan. if you want to get something from Japan yourself, its best to take a trip there and bring it back with you, else get something imported already thats good to go
even still, factoring in most JDM cars have 30,000km-150,000km from Japan that are 1990ish models, and im getting a '79 with a little over 212k, for sure never been bagged, garaged always, summer only, no rust/dents, etc. besides the seat rips, it looks like the day it left the factory

same price, a TT RHD Z32 goes for almost as much as im dumping into the Suprahttp://edmonton.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...AdIdZ286525353
MK1 is awesome enough for me, few still rolling around

1gz....

seriously, though. in today's market, 1jz isn't a viable option. not that much cheaper, not nearly as much power, lower displacement, worse flowing head.
the only people thinks it's an option is because for a while there.... it was. now that the jdm import market is getting more engines over here, including the 2jzgte, and the 1gzfe, the 1jz looks like an asthmatic 80 year old in a rocking chair.
sure, you can make some decent power out of it, but add an extra half liter... what will that help?
and a head that flows better... what will that help?
and considering no usdm/cdm car had a 1jz, quality new replacement parts are not going to be as easy to find.
