2nd Gen Vs 3rd Gen Tranny

Can ayone tell me if the 2nd generation Maxima stick shift tranny will fit a 3rd generation Maxima?
Bolt straight up and just the mounts a bit different as engines are the same. Cheers Vee

Im not too sure about the 5-speeds, although they shouldnt be too different. But I do know that the automatic transmissions are somwhat similar. I knew a guy that had a 3rd gen with a 1st gen auto tranny in it. The only thing that didnt work was the transmission control button. (power/normal/ comfort) and most likely the cruise control.

It would work. Its the same but the mounts I think are different as you said. As long as they're VGs. VE and you got things to swap over.

You need to mix and match to make it work. They are very close, internally and externally, but not exact.

L series tranny wont bolt up to a VG, and if you even could use a RWD trans on a FWD, everyone would want the Borg-Warner one Z31 (VG30E still) had that was super strong

Go to the Salvage yard and compare their mounts on the transmission side with the 3rd gen the trans should fit with no problem!

Yes we are talking about 2nd generation with VG30E fitting the 3rd generation also with VG30E. Looking thru the parts system they have different mounts but apart from that the gearboxes are identical.
Thanks for all the info peeps i was just wanting to know how many had done this if they were not able to source a 3rd gen gearbox to do a conversion from automatic.
I think the 3rd generation with VG or VE have the same manual gearbox as well. Vee
