Factory Alarm Reset on 92SE

I have a friend that just bought a 92 (I believe it's an SE model - it has the keypad on the door handle).

The car has a variety of issues, but the one plaguing us right now is we can't get it started. I think the factory alarm is the issue. When we turn on the key, the headlights blink like the hazards are on, the horn does not beep, but the car will not start.

There is no key fob that was provided. This was bought from an auction. Is there a way to disable the factory alarm? We tried unhooking the battery, turning the key to the on position, hooking the battery back up, turning the key off and then back on but that didn't work (this has worked on other cars in the past).

Any ideas? If we can get past this issue, i believe we can get the car started. The car did start when my friend bought the car about a week ago because they drove it home. I believe they have driven it once since then, but the battery died and i'm not sure if when they put a new battery in the car it prompted the factory alarm to kick on.

Thanks for any help!!!

Sarah

If you look under the dash on the driver's side you will see a box marked "Security". Unplug the wiring harness & you're good.

Only the GXE models have the keypad on the door handle.

Threre are two ways to turn off the alarm.

One is unlocking the driver side door with the key. There is a sensor on the door lock cylinder which turns off the alarm when the key is turned. If that's not working then it may be a wiring problem that needs to be checked.

(EDIT: This is only good when you have the alarm problem fixed. I don't think you can do it while the alarm is going on.)
And the other is to enter the code on the keypad. Here are the instructions to set it up:
