[5spd se, no mod] say im driving in second gear (slow enough to hear this noise)and the rpms reach down to 2,000 then i hear this clicking or grinding til 1,500 rpms then it goes away. is the exhaust manifold? also what are the symptoms of a vtc failure?

i had this same problem on my 92 se automatic,i would only here the noise a a little bit then it went away, this would happen after i would leave the car and come back to turn it on, then after a while the noise became more noticable, came to find out it was the exhuast manifold, on top of that two of the studs were broken inside so my mechanic the genius that he is had to perform surgery on my max, he took a drill bit and drilled it in the stud and slowly got it out, anyway it is better if you get the exhaust manifold gasket at the dealership because the ones from pep boys didn't fit even though it was the right part # for my engine, good luck
