Is a 1994 VG Green/Yellow Dot Injector fuel rail Compatible with 1992 GXE Computer?
Is a 1994 VG Green/Yellow Dot Injector fuel rail Compatible with 1992 GXE Computer?
(Ignore the inconsistency with the harness connectors, as I'll be re-soldering those.)
Note: The pintle caps are quite different between the blue/black dot variety in comparison with the green/yellow dot vaiety. The 1992 GXE VG Blue/Black dot injectors have a much larger pintle cap that stick out like a **** star.
A mechanic said that I should be careful, as the computer in the 1992 VG might interact differently with the injectors from a 1994 GXE VG, and I could get engine problems. He claims that the harness connectors are different for a reason, so mechanics wouldn't swap the wrong injectors in place.
The 1992 VG came standard with blue or black dot pink injectors. What I want to do is swap fuel rails, as in use the fuel rail from the 1994 VG which has Green & Yellow Dots only, which I bought mostly new ones in the last 3 years.
It would also be nice to know if those blue/black dot 1992 injectors could be installed at some time in the future onto this 1994 VG Fuel Rail (to co-exist with the green/yellow variety) if I have more failures. It would be a shame to throw out 4 working blue/black dot injectors.

I just got a VG from a 1994 Max...with harness and computer. Since it's going into my Z31 I have no need for the harness, ecu, manifolds with injectors attached and it came from a running car which I personally revved the bejesus out of. Smooth as silk, so I bought it.

electrically they are the same, but the injectors must match the rail and the intake manifold adapter plate (middle part of the intake). so if you are putting 94 injectors onto a 92 car, you will have no way to unplug an injector to test it later on due to the increased overhang of the 89-92 middle intake plate blocking the connectors from coming off the injectors. I found this out on my car when the previous owner installed my old 93/94 injector/rail/connector set onto an otherwise original '90 motor.
Thanks Caped and Cmax. Not a fan of those 92 injectors too. The price is way higher for some reason. Anyhow, I have some statements here that i've tried to deduce from your posts (and others) in the archives, so when I re-install the VG30E I won't miss anything. Let me know if I am incorrect on any of them. I'm basically storing the 92 VG engine parts in a barrel in case I need them in the future. Yesterday I completed the teardown. The 94 VG with the 94 VG fuel rail will go into the 92 chassis.
1. The 92 fuel rail will not line up with the 94 VG intake manifold mounting holes.
2. The 92 VG intake manifold is not an identical part to the 94 VG intake manifold.
3. The 92 injectors will not physically fit in the bores of the 94 fuel rail.
4. The exhaust manifold studs should NOT be screwed in all the way to the bottom in their holes. (Matt94 suggests this may be an aiding culprit to them snapping. I am concerned though that they might wiggle out.)
5. It is OK to install the exhaust manifold studs with anti-seize and screwing them in lightly all the way to the bottom. By hand lightly and simply STOP once they touch the bottom.
6. The 94 VG30E + RE4F02A CANNOT be removed from the GXE engine bay in one single assembly OUT THE TOP via engine crane, then inserted into the 92 engine bay as one single assembly, in the reverse fashion.
7. The LH & RH hydraulic lifter guide from the 92 VG is not the same part as the 94 VG hydraulic lifter guide, thus are incompatible.
