couple seatbelt questions
couple seatbelt questions
went to the yard today and found a car with the correct color seatbelts i wanted...however the majority of them were covered in grime and you name it, gum, etc. every 3rd gen i ever find someone has torn apart both parts of the backseat..as if they were trapped in the trunk or something
anyway that got plenty of grease and grime on the rear seatbelts as well.
first question being...has anyone used or anyone know of a product that will clean our seatbelts? the ones in the yards usually have some nasty stains so finding a complete clean set seems out of reach.
I did manage to grab the passenger side lap belt assembly...I noticed when i removed it from the rocker panel I was unable to get slack back out of it, its locked with the buckle just sticking out
closer look and there seems to be a good sized ball bearing that needs to be pushed/pressed in somehow and it makes contact with the locking tab and it should move. I cant seem to figure out how this works..I put it back in the car and screwed in all the bolts thinking it would press the assembly against the rocker panel or something? but no luck.
Wondering if anyone knows more about the seatbelt assembly?
i cant believe that i just "voided" this seatbelt because i removed it from the car. But i also dont want to further open the assembly itself. One reason being it says "DO NOT OPEN" on the side lol
oh yeah. both front shoulder belts were good in this car.
except somebody cut the drivers belt...
3 inches below the release button.

The auto belt retractor needs to be mounted at a certain angle to operate properly. When the ball is resting at the right spot, it will free up the belt. I thought I messed one up too, until I remounted it.
lol my roommate was tugging on it forever last night and he got slack out of it twice but had no idea how he did it...
im like dude! it has to have something to do with that ball bearing in there
then i grabbed it and held it level and it pulled out *smacks head*

I would tell you to find a seat belt unit for your car that is broken. Install it and take it to the dealership. Try to make it look like you didn't mess with it. These cars have a lifetime warranty on the seat belts and they will replace it for free. Both front belts are on the same unit, so you will get two new ones in front.
I had a seat belt that was frayed on the driver side and I took it to the dealer a few years back and pitched a little fit with my warranty book in hand and now I have brand new clean seat belts. I just told them they were not safe and frayed due to ordinary use and were not misused or abused.

Warranty? That's about it...at this point.
I remember Nissan replaced my injectors and fuel rail at some point because of a safety issue with the o-rings leaking and the potential for a fire. But I can't recall if that was on my '87 or '89 VG Maxima. Seems like that recall ran out though.

I read on a Nissan site a long time ago that Nissan put a lifetime warranty on their seatbelts beginning sometime in the 80s. When I bought my car, the driver side seatbelt was frayed and it annoyed me.
It did take a little bit of effort to convince the dealership to replace it, so that's why I had the warranty book handy.
Not really a "find," I had the warranty book in my glove box.

i went to the dealership with mine and the kid working there said nothing has a life time warranty so i showed him my warranty book and he proceeded to shut the hell up and fix my seatbelts
