Exhaust Choices?

Finally found another 3rd gen to drive, yippee! My old one was got wrecked by some bimbo in a durango a couple years back. I had a full exhaust front to back on my old max. Even went through the trouble with hedders. I was wondering what choices do we have now for exhaust systems or will I have to go custom? I've seen a few old threads with brokens links from a few years back, are we still stuck with the pacesetter and brullen stuff? Thats all I seem to be able to find and they are quite pricey.

MES mandrel exhaust system, just need your own resonator (20" IIRC) and a muffler. throw that on and a WarpSpeed Ypipe and you'll notice a good difference. we had a groupbuy last January i think it was IIRC

I got a combination of exhaust parts. OBX polished SS headers/front pipe, Magna Flow Cat, Custom Maxima SS Resonator/pipe and Megan 2.5 inlet/dual outlet SS muffler.

Well mainly the BRM is a complete ready to bolt on exhaust just as if you bought it from GReddy or something. The MES is just the exhaust piping like the WSP stuff and you need to find/fit/install your own muffler, resonator (if you want one), and weld on the hangers.

That makes up the main price difference. The MES is sort of an open book on the way you want it to sound depending on your choice in resonator and muffler. Also, the BRM (according to what the owner told me) actually has a proper fitting muffler for the 3rd gen. See, stock, the 3rd gen's muffler is high inlet low outlet so that the muffler is parallel with the ground. If you look closely at the vast majority of pieced together/universal exhausts on 3rd gens the muffler usually angles toward the ground at the back and looks terrible/cheap/ricey IMO. Most people seem to either be oblivious to that or don't mind it but it sure bugs me

yeah MES is best if you want to piece things yourself, that exhaust was AWESOME though. sounded so good. fart can i used was nearly flush/even to the bumper. you can remove your cat converter with the MES exhaust as well, i did because i dont run cats on any of my vehicles

Hey DizZL3 I have a few pics of my 3r gen MES system...I sounded great and was quiet but sporty and I have an extra MES....Her's some pics:

I bought the tubing kit only and installed 5" x 11" x 22" Magnaflow rear muffler and an 18" Magnaflow 6" round muffler(resonator)....It's an awesome kit and the welding may have cost and exta $40 - $50...

Yeah, I really like the MES system. I had them weld on the resonator and with a cherry bomb muffler on the back it is really obnoxious -- which is what I was looking for.

I think I'll take some pictures of my MES Exhaust systems installed! It's a 2.5" tubing Kit that I added a Magnaflow 18" x 6" round muffler as a resonator and a 5" x 11" x 22" oval Magnaflow muffler @ the rear location.....I choose to paint my system with 2000 degree F rattle can engine paint....and it's still looking good!

Ahhh okay I get cha thanks. And lolol I like your exquisite taste in fine 3rd gen james I think I know what your talking about. I personally never liked the look of angled down mufflers or the tips. I like that clean striaght cut look but anyways whats your solution to that aftermarket problem? Or you did your own custom settup thus avoiding the ricey look on th emuffler heh.

Thats really sick tho this makes me want to add this to my list of upcoming mods. Obv I would have to go for the cheaper one but I like the custom'ness about it. What's your opinion on running it without a cat? Do you have a cat on your car james.

Yes and it's quiet on the city streets and freeway with absolutely no drone! Deeper than stock idle tone but not enough for any non Maxima owner to pick up on....Power comes on great since this is a cam/header/2.5" catback/intake/ignition system, etc, modded car

Put a new short block in it or have it bored out to 89.5mm or 90mm...My's using a little oil as well but I rebuilt it @ 272,000 w/o reboring it since it was in spec and I'll probably get a 4.0L Frontier next....this D21 is setup with a Nissan Motorsport swaybar kit, 225/60/15 wheel/tire package, Nissan Motorsport cam and adjustable cam sprocket, pacesetter headers, WSP Hiflo cat, 2.25" T-409 SS catback, ported head, studded block, Arp rod bolts, 280zx turbo hi capacity oil pump, engine oil cooler, twin MSD oil filled coils (deleted OEM coils over 10 yrs ago) troublefree! 2 piece Hella headlight housings, etc.....! This lil' ***** used to beat up on alot of cars but I'm driving it a little less aggressive since changing jobs!

nah no point in getting crazy serious with it, its had it share of adventures (driven all the way across the country by a previous owner, dumped in a field for 4 years before i bought it, etc). might grab a KA24 eventually and swap it in but nothing more. bit of floorboard rust, steering has lots of play, etc. fun thing to take offroading and slide sideways on the snow though. took it offroading this morning and blew off the exhaust again

His truck has a hole floor. Flinstone style! LMAO! Seriously I watched that truck walk a 2006 Acura TL. That thing is stupid fast for its age.

i posted this in the noob thread but i didnt get a answer.

i have a muffler question, im going to put on a magnaflow single in and out ( #11225) but i have searched on here and some say they have alot of drone, some say none .
my question is with stock 2'' exhaust and a glasspack resonator will i have much drone ? im just trying to get some sound from this exhaust, i hate driving a quiet car.

Wow that's different.....First of all that's a 2" system like all Maxima's up to 03! You'll get some sporty sound from 11254 (18") and a 18124 Glass pack (18") not obnoxious but coupled with a JWT popcharger you hear some performance like sound! I ran a 18" x 2" CherryBomb glasspack with the OEM rear muffler and the sound never changed! Nissan mufflers are some quiet beast! I'm running a 2.5" Magnaflow 12576 & 10426 and it's deeper @ idle but quiet and no drone but does have a sporty sound when the throttle in stepped into! Check the prices thru AMazon and save some money!
