Crank but no start

Wuts up guys. This is a lil unexpected didnt think Id need to make another help thread so soon but was hoping you guys could help me out.

Yesterday I started my car in the morning and everything was fine as usual no wierd noises or anything out of the ordinary. After parking and coming back a couple of hours later I started my car and it just died after 2 seconds. Tried a couple of more times but it wouldnt start it. Would only crank and crank. I thought maybe I was low on gas cause I tend to push it sometimes like a newb. so when I came back I put the gas in and it started up for like 5 seconds or so then just died again. I got it to start just one more time for like a second but no hope after that. I waited a couple of hours and came back to try and start it and still no work...even tried again later at midnight still no help.

So I decided this morning to push my car to the mechanic a couple of blocks away before I went to school for finals cause I need it for work tomorrow(delivery) and have no time to troubleshoot myself. Just for fun I decided to try starting it and it worked...... Even tho I tried multiple times the night before at different periods. I stilll brang it to my mechanic because I need to make sure its reliable enough for me to go to work with, aswell as hopeing he would find an answer and leave more time for me to study.

8 hours later I pick it up and I was told that they tested the relays for current aswell as the cam sensor. I know they werent going to do much but any info or tests done were going to be helpful. Also he started it a couple of times and let it run to check if it would die on its own. Eh no help there, no surprise. As of now I could start it up fine but im worried Ill get stranded one of these days. Cars been well maintained and virtually everything fuel/ignition related was changed. I was told mayb it could be the starter slowly going bad..but I thought a bad starter wldnt crank? (my starter is 2-3yrs old, nissan fuel pump less then 2 yrs old.) I was also suggested to swap the relays around maybe..

sry for the long explanation guys and I know im definitly missing some valuable info I failed to add like what parts ive replaced or anythin I just really cant think of anything else. Thanks evryone

I'm going thru the similar problem except mine will not ever start. No spark in cyl . 1,2&4 . You probably lost spark due to some glitch in your system. ECM ?
Hopefully it won't happen again. Best of luck.

There are 4 things that're needed for a car to start. Air, fuel, compression and spark. Test all of 'em and refer to FSM for specs. Plus, it's winter.

hm interesting test, so just wiggle the hardness going into the box while the car is on? My heatercore leaked on my ecm a couple of months back but I wiped it down and put it plastic bag around it( aswell as changin the heatercore obv) and I havent had any trouble since. Maybe one of my passenger' kicked it by accident or something?

when you say plus it's winter are you implying that maybe somethings up with my battery too? or you just generally stateing things ingnition related tend to break down during the winter.

Cannot say it definitely "IS", but the progression and description of your problem sure match the symptoms I experienced.

Cold temperature affects electricity and your fluids. Just check those four things first to isolate the problem. There are so many reasons why a car wont start. Try the easiest first. Battery. Fuses. Check fuel relay (in the trunk, under the plastic trim) by ear (although not all clicking relays work). Air filter.
Then go for the fuel pressure test, spark plug visual inspection, and compression test. That should tell you a bunch of things to isolate the problem.

Well I guess when you put it so organized that makes it much easier for me.Battery is a duralast just about over 2 yrs now so maybe that was the issue..I checked all the fuses they were fine. Relays I havent checked yet, the air filter is good I know. Never done a fuel pressure test. I know spark plugs are fine recently did them and also did compression test so thats good...

thanks a lot tho i'll def get to what I havent checked off yet

Owning a multi-meter would really help. I got a manual range digital MM from Autozone for $15.
