Front hub VE

I'm not sure if this is appropriate but I have no response from the classified section.

Who has a good spare front (driver) VE wheel hub? I would prefer part outs rather than selling the hub due to previous bearing damage. Or is it possible to get a VG hub and machine it down to VE spec?

You'd be hard pressed to find a GOOD used hub on here. Generally on the 3rd gen, unless you replace the wheel bearings right away, the bad wheel bearings eventually cause the hub to become damaged (and really, nowadays, who of these cheap bastids is going to replace the bearings immediately?).

So, most likely, a good used hub will generally have to come from a knuckle/spindle that has yet to have the bearings fail. Given that, you'd then have to find somebody to separate the hub from the knuckle just to sell you the hub - and I don't know that many would be willing to do that when they could sell just a whole/good complete assembly.

I have several extra sets of knuckle assemblies but the hubs are all out of spec on them. I spent a couple of weeks junkyard hunting and actually bought a few sets but the hubs are all too worn. I'm just planning on buying OEM (~$150 a hub). Sucks, but at least you won't be doing the job again in a few years.

You could machine the VG hub outer diameter, sure, but what would you do about the splines?

You mean, the inner diameter of the hub (splines) where the outboard joint goes? That's a good question. I've been thinking about the availability and reliability of the hubs. I dunno if there are any VEs that were abandoned, parted out, or totaled.

I actually have both front hubs from a VE parts car that was in good working order when I pulled them last year. I prefer not to take them all apart, but I think I can fit the entire assembly in a large flat rate box.

I am not sure if it matters, but the car had no ABS and it was a 5-speed.

They are in my garage right now. If you are interested, send me a PM.

It was pretty sweet, except stupid TNT stayed with the Hawks-Heat until half time of the Blazer game, so I missed the first half. I enjoyed the second half, though. I was even happier with the win at OKC. Too bad it wasn't on TV.

Where I live, I cannot get the "local" broadcast (Comcast). They just started to do streaming, but I had to work late that day and I can't figure out how to stream it on my PS3 or some other way to watch it on my big TV.

Damn, that was embarrassing. With the lockout, they definitely needed fewer back-to-back games, not more. Oh, well, the starters got a lot of rest int the 4th quarter. That is a team Portland should beat easily nine out of 10 times.

We'll see how they do on the next one.
