Getting car running again

Hello everyone so i am getting my first car and it is a 1990 nissan maxima it was formally my mothers. The car has been stationary because the transmission. when comming to a stop the car would pull forward and when engine unable to overcome breaks would stall out but we are sending it to the mechanic. The car has been sitting outside for about 3 years now and has 169.000 miles. In terms of weather conditions we live in san diego so pretty temperate not many extremes besides heat.

Last time the car was run it had 3/4 of a tank of gas in it and still does do you guys suggest that i drain the fuel from the car and put new gas in? its been sitting in their for 3 years so idk. Also 2 of the windows have dropped down for no reason anyone know why?

Also would you guys suggest when i send the car in that i get it tuned up? and would you guys suggest me doing anything else with it to allow it to function with less likely of breaking down again?

Thanks for the help guys.

You can try start it and see what happens. You will want to replace your fuel filter. Check all rubber hoses. Yes have it tuned up while at the shop. The window is the regulator needing to be replaced. Check all electronics after all of this to make sure it is all functioning properly.

Draining the fuel wouldn't be a bad idea but as mentioned already, definately change your fuel filter. Your going to want to run some fuel system cleaner or some Sea Foam to clean fuel lines out. Fuel can gel up in the lines sometimes if vehicle sits long enough without running. Like mentioned already window regulators, you have take interior door cover off to access. Your lucky cause the window regulators on these cars are fairly easy compared to newer window regulators. If you have any mechanical aptitude you can do a tune up yourself. Change the cap/rotor, spark plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, oil change, trans fluid drain&fill, check PWS fluid, check brake fluid, test battery&alternator(Autozone will check for free), check accessory belts and maybe clean out throttle body housing with some throttle cleaner. I think that's the basics, i know it looks like quite a bit but really it's not if you want to make sure she'll get you where your going. By all means ask as many questions as you want, this site is great and a 3rdgen Max is a great first car. A 169,000 miles really isn't too many miles for a 3G, my boy just sold his 3G with 400,000 plus miles on the odo and she looks/runs great. Good luck and good wrenching!!

best thing to do is do a full fluid flush, possibly fuel filter, and a tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor). probably can get away with just burning off the old gas. check for leaks anywhere too. belts may be cracked

my truck was abandoned in a field for nearly 5 years by a previous owner, only thing was the clutch slave started to leak. burned the old gas off on the way home and just had to do small stuff (thermostat, tune up, belts, battery, fluids, etc). but when he went to start it after sitting for 5 years, it started on the first crack

in a warmer climate, the belts and whatnot shouldnt be too bad though

if you can safely remove the old gas then why not?,
anyone know if one could remove the fuel filters bottom hose put it in a gas can
and turn the key to the on position would the fuel pump shoot it all out?
any dangers besides spilling or smoking like static or battery terminals?
then use the old gas in a lawnmower
