In most cases, yeah I agree. One advantage I have with the black Max i'm looking at is that I have a friend of mine that works at the dealership it's at. Once mom gets her tax refund (any day now) i'll take her to the dealer to look at the car. If they don't want to move the price down far enough, she told me she doesn't want it considering it needs injectors and a timing belt service.

Just got off the phone with the guy that listed the car on CL. He's had the car for about six months, and he's selling the car since he bought a truck since he does lawn service work.

The car has 150,000 miles, and I believe that 94 has the 90k timing belt. So, if the timing belt was done at 90k, then I should be good to go for another 30ish thousand miles.

Pretty cool probably. I love the 17's that came with the SE's prior to 2004.

Update... the black Max is still available, so I'm going to take my mom to see it this afternoon. If she wants it, we're going to negotiate the price. If they don't want to come down to around $800, then no deal.

$800 is pretty fair considering the work it needs

Update...

The black Max is a no go. They would not budge one dollar on their price. I couldn't believe it. That's the first time in my near 35 years of existence on planet Earth that i've gone to a dealership where the would not negotiate the price of the car. I'm actually still pissed off about it.

Yeah, perhaps so. If they call, my mom won't have the money anyways since she decided to use her tax refund to fix her car. Hopefully that p.o.s. she's driving will last another year.

What is she driving?

Sounds like my mom. She has a 2000 Hyundai Elantra and it was fantastic for 10 years. Then the transmission went out - replaced at the dealer with a brand new unit for $2100 2 years ago. Went out again about 6 months ago just out of warranty, and she dumped another $1800 on a rebuild at a shop and they gave her a 1 year warranty. Went out AGAIN last month and they fixed it under warranty but of course they told her the TCM was bad and they charged her $400 to stick a friggin' used TCM in it (~$40 part and they even wrote "good used TCM" on the invoice). Of course, she agreed to it and didn't even ask me about it first.

She's got about 185k on it and over the past few years I've had to replace the TPS on it, both 02 sensors, crank angle sensor, cam position sensor, and a bunch more crap I can't think of offhand.

I'm hoping to get her to 200k on it.

She has a 95 S-10 Blazer. Once one thing gets fixed, something else breaks. It now has a coolant leak coming from somewhere in the back of the engine. Since the rear of the engine is so close to the firewall, I haven't been able to find where it's coming from. It wouldn't surprise me if a freeze plug is starting to rot. GM cars are known for that. Most of my family in the 80's and 90's owned GM stuff, and they all had the freeze plug problem. Sure, you can get brass ones that won't rot out, but if it's in a spot you can't get to without pulling the motor, it just sucks to spend so much on labor to replace a 2 dollar part.
