Beautiful, take care of her! I miss mine... a ~20 year old turbo 4 door sedan that can carry friends and gear comfortably and still haul a$$ and look good is a rare thing.

I recently drove the car around the block after allowing her to warm up. I haven't had the chance to register the car yet so I was not able to take the Max on an extended run. So far I had to add some power steering fluid, change the oil, and bleed the clutch slave cylinder. The max shifted well and the clutch engagement felt good. No smoke which was a great sign but was sad to discover that my last set of Tokicos were blown. I did not experience any issues with the motor during the the short test drive as it responded and Idled well. I hope to get her registered this week and finally get her into boost.

Damn, havent seen you in a while. I also thought you got rid of it as well. I've gone through the same thing in almost getting rid of mine. Its true about BOOST. This is why i ended up with the 335i. Did you get the E39 or E60 M5?

Nice car. Is it somehow related to the car in this link I somehow bookmarked: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eXL6hqQO1Q

And wow? Greeny still lurks here? I have seen his posts in a while.

IIRC that guy was known as "Joe Boost" on here. I always thought his front IC setup was sloppy/ugly.

Either way, not the same car as 4signs

Ok. I thought 4signs swapped engines, bumpers, etc. I think this is my first time seeing 4signs's Maxima.

I bought an 03 e39 after test driving several e60s m5. The sound of the v10 in the E60 was intoxicating and the car sreams after 4k but it lacked the torque down low. The mpg on the E60 M5s is horrendous. I would average about 8-10mpgs on every test drive! The E39 M5 has those classic lines, (kind of reminds me of the 3rd gen maxima) the interior is gorgeous and s62 motor in the e39 m5 has torque everywhere. Here are a few pics of the M5 with the maxima

Which car, the Turbo VE or M5, has better straight line performance? I assume the M5 being newer with lots of power from the factory is better all around, but it would be nice to hear how a turbo Max with that much power (400hp+) compares.

Both cars have really good lines...It's amazing to me how low the BMW's come from the factory and how well they drive and ride being that low! It's the why all of us want our Maxima(s) to seat and ride! Do you still have the 300zx Twin Turbo as well....If you do that's a hell of a stable you have!

From a dig I would say the M5 but things would get really interesting from a roll. That Max is lighter, has a little more power but lacks traction. I thought about getting drag radials for the Max but with the tranny being the weak link I'd prefer having the tires break lose before the drivetrain.

Yup I still have the 300zx and with 611whp(on 93 pump) it will spank the Max and the M5

I love that M5 but that motor would keep me away from it. Since you have one. I would go ahead and replace all timing components along with the oil pump and water pump. I have heard a lot of horror stories about the plastic chain guides breaking up in the V8s and causing all kinds of headaches.

Guess who is back???? I had to put this project on hold 3yrs ago due to life throwing me a curve ball. My tuner and I repinned the engine harness and got the powerfc r33 gtr ecu to work in the max beautifully. Strapped her on the mustang dyno and attempted a few passes and kept blowing off I/C piping.
http://vid236.photobucket.com/albums...ps5d0amecr.mp4

Decided to redo my 13yr old i/c piping and strapped the max back on the dyno. The I/C pipes held and we made another pass at about 10psi.
http://vid236.photobucket.com/albums...psrvgvdu79.mp4

During that pass the waste gate which is located near the drivers side wheel vented to the atmosphere and caught my tuner by surprise. He abruptly let off the throttle thinking we might have hurt the motor. It's been well over 6yrs since the waste gate has opened and even I forgot how loud that darn thing is. After that pull we were pretty impressed with numbers especially the torque .

We attempted to make a few more adjustments while on the dyno to fine tune the map but my tuner was having an issue with his laptop which led to a bitter sweet ending to the session.

Sweet man. Glad you're still at it, I was wondering about your car recently and thought perhaps you'd given up on it.

Did I read correctly that you are using an R33 ECU?

And I wonder what's up with boosted VE's putting down so much more torque than hp. Mine put down 60 lbs more torque than hp. I thought mine was the anomaly but yours is right there with mine in terms of the gap between hp and tq.

Mine was done on a Dyno Dynamics machine and those supposedly "read low" but I don't think that would change the hp to tq range gap much had it been on a Dynojet or something. Mine was also done with a hi-flow cat. Do you have a cat on your setup?

Yup, Apexi powerfc ecu for a r33 GTR. VEs are freaken torque monster. When I first had the max dynod 15yrs ago the car tq was constantly higher than hp. (410 vs 462 I believe). I dynod the car at Primespeed tuning which is also well know for reading lower than many of the dynos in my area. I'm not running a cat however i am running 3" exhaust with two mufflers (in place of a cat and resonator)

How does your clutch like dealing with 400 lbs of torque? What clutch are you running?

The clutch is holding up pretty good considering it's over 10yrs old. I believe it's an atc extreme clutch. I do remember it being rated for over 500ft/lbs of tq

I lol'd at the IC pipes popping off, its such an annoying issues. When i was test driving my car and my IC pipe kept popping off. Great to see you still at it. Would you happen to have a vid of a full pull?

i made this post 3 years ago and one year latter i end up with a V8 powered BMW.....I actually had to have the chain guides and timing covers replaced/resealed as soon as i got the car.

Unfortunately I do not have any vids of a full pull as it was just me and my tuner in the shop. I was tasked to operate the start/stop test on the dyno and in between that time I had been standing by with some sort of tool in my hand awaiting to fix the next unforseen problem haha.
How are you liking your V8 powered BMW?

Hey 4signs do you remember or can you get what wires had to be repinned to run the apexi power FC r33 stand alone?

Sorry for the delayed response James. I have been running a similar set up for the longest without any issues. However I plan on switching it up soon as I'm planning on redoing my y pipe set up in the future. Been thinking of plumping into the exhaust with a venturi pcv system

I can gather all the info together but it will take me some time to write it up. Anyone who is serious about going the powerfc route shoot me a PM.
