1993 Maxima Timing chain. V-6 DOHC

My previous 93 Maxima timing chain skipped a link or more when I turned the car off, and destroyed the compression in three cylinders. It had over 224,000 miles on it. I have the chance to get another 1993 Maxima with 124.000 miles on it. If so, should I have the Timing chain tensioner, etc, looked at? How far are you guys going on the same timing chain. It is a chain, not the belt model.

Thanks
Russ

general rule to go by on chains is they will make a noise when problems start to arise

Thank you for the reply. What type of noise do they make when going bad? Also, from what I hear, it's common for this particular engine to make "ticking, deisel" sounds from time to time?

Thanks
Russ

Thanks. You guys are awesome. I've been told that you can ignore the occasional VTC clacking. Is this true? My previous 93 Maxima ran great. The mechanic says that the chain must have skipped when I turned the engine off. When I came back out and tried to start it, nothing. Lost compression in 3 cylinders. Before that, my only problem with it was a faulty Mass Air Flow sensor. An easy repair.

Thanks
Russ

its not really a huge problem, you can ground them for a temporary fix or you can replace them. i think the majority of people dont do anything about it

Ive had 3 Engines in my Ford Explorer 2 of them went bad because of their Timing Chain and I would always hear that scratching noise on start up but when I took it to my mechanic he said it wasn't a timing chain. Obviously I need a change of mechanic.

I wish my Maxima chain had given me some notice. it sounded and ran great. Until, the last time that I turned the engine off. Stopping the engine caused the chain to skip and tear up three cylinders :-(
