how low of a profile should i go?

I have 16" wheels. i currently have a 55 profile but want a lower profile, which would look better 50 or 45?

use 225/50/16 tires. anything with less sidewall will really screw up your speedo, and make the car look like a hooptie. might as well throw some gold spokes in there if you do that.

in handling, yes. in profile size, not much- IF you have the correct sizes to begin with.

215/55 is the correct size for 16s.
225/50 is a little wider, and slightly less profile. it's actually about 5% shorter circumference than stock, so it'll throw off your speedo a tiny bit.
225/45 will really throw your speedo off, and it starts to look dumb. huge wheel well gap.

okay.. well 225/50 (112.5mm) will have almost the exact same sidewall height as your 205/55s (112.75mm), but they'll be an inch wider. should make for quite a bit better handling and it won't change the looks at all.
