i never really beat up on the auto...but it was built with high stall tc and modded vb. also had a filter and cooler with tstat on it.

i yanked it b/c the part that the dipstick bolts to the transmission cracked/broke so it was a forever leak from the transmission. tried to jb weld, tried to RTV it...nada. so i said screw it and go 5spd.

the tune is still kinda krap so i can't really beat on it anyway.

thanks gents for your help on this.
I hate doings things twice or in rare situations three times, especially something as time comsuming as swapping a/t to m/t. In this case I would have to put in that wrench time to keep my sanity. Everytime I would drive her it would fuuck with my head but that's me!! Anyway, good job swapping out that auto for the 5speed.

Well, if you are going to leave it like that for a while, you may as well try to put some Redline MTL or 75/90 in there to give a try. My ISB was starting to make noise, n then i did the gear oil change, after that the noise has been quiet down at least 80%.
Just my experience.

Some times you got to do what you got to do to get to the end. I feel the same way but found out I wasn't able to move forward until I went back and tackled my issues.

i'm using Amsoil MTL...it's probably as good if not better than redline MTL. but it needs to be done...so i'll get it tuned right and then pull the transmission out and either rebuild or just do the ISB.

yeah pretty much. there were soooo many parts missing. i barely got to piece it all together. i think i spent 2X what i paid for this "kit" that he advertises in buying parts that were missing or were junk.

When the pedal is fully out, the weight of the clutch disc is supported by clamping load of the FW/PP, and the splines of the clutch disc can support the weight of the input shaft. No noise due to not supporting any weight, despite there being motion.

Plausible?
i've never seen that happen but anything is possible i guess. i'd be interested in seeing the old bearings when he gets it taken apart.

Danny,

I trust you swapped in a VLSD VE 5-speed vs an open diff 5-speed from a VG, yes?

errr nope...used the VG open diff.

what do i need to do to switch over to the VE VLSD 5spd aside from getting the actual transmission and axles/hubs?
