i'm pretty sure its all the keyless entry pads screwing up, but i'll ask her and find out
btw, my mom has had the "bose problem" twice, still isn't fixed. can anyone tell me (or direct me in the right direction) what causes the popping/crackling from speakers, and then the whole radio/CD/tape to die?
thanks
Chris

More specific symptoms may help us provide better help to you. On mine I had one pad that would work most of the time but certain keys would not work sometimes.
Ultimately, I just replaced the whole keypad mechanism in that door handle (not too hard). I bought mine new at the time (big $$) - you should be able to find one easily at a used car yard.
Anyway, my problem was 2 of the buttons must have developed very small holes somewhere. They then got ambient air into them. So, when it was humid (or raining) they would get some moisture in them. Puzzled me because they worked most of the year, so I had ruled out moisture. What happened is moisture/humidity would get in and if it was freezing cold outside the water would freeze rendering those buttons useless. Then, when it got warmer outside or if my car was back in the garage...voila, it would work again. I spent 2 years trying to figure this one out.
Again, replacing the keypad did the trick.
