security system

Hey what do you guys have for an alarm/security system on your 3rd gens? What would you recommend? Also, does replacing the factory alarm fix the screwy door lock problems or make it worse?

i have the standard old up the handle aqnd shut the door locks. i have had no complaints so far. but the set limit is 30 seconds after you set it before its active. but if someone can get to my car and unlock it in 30 seconds after i leave then i guess they are pretty smart. maximas have built in covers over our door hinges inside the door so it makes it near impossible for coat hangers and other generic types to open it. Try ****ing your girlfriend off and chaining her to your front end and leave her there for the night!

Replacing the stock alarm (or basically disabling it is what they'll do) won't do anything to weird doorlock function - they're pretty much separate systems (and both complicated!).

I like my stock alarm for now, since I don't see any need for me to go with any additional features like proximity sensing or anything fancy. The ONLY thing I've found lacking though, is a shock sensor. I might try adding one onto the stock system... someday.

A couple weeks ago, someone on the 5th Gen boards put up a webpage about doing exactly this on his 5th Gen. Alarm function for their cars (arming/disarming, etc) is a bit different because of the remotes and whatnot, but at least it gives you some idea. I thought I had it bookmarked, but I don't, so you can try searching for it there.
