Idle Speed.. 89 SE Auto
#1
For as long as ive had my car i dont think it has idled high in the winter. Instead it tries to idle at about 700 or 800 as normal, but since its cold it ends up at 500-600 which causes slight vibration to the interior. Usually, ill manually warm it up with the gas pedal... 1300 rpms for maybe 10-15 seconds and slowly decrease engine speed. The weird thing is every once in a while in the cold, itll idle hihg by itsel, or if i press the gas down only when i let go itll idle high for a few mins. Has anyone had this prolem or know what it could be? ECU? Coolant Temp sensor?...... also:
does anyone elses auto tranny shift slow in the winter?a min or two before harsh shifting ends from 1-2 and 10 mis for the highway gear( torque convert) . thanx...

idle speed 89se auto
I am a newbie to this forum but I have done most of the mechanical work on my 90 SE auto which I have owned from new .. I do'nt know if you are aware that to adjust the idle on your maxima involves putting the ECU in a "loop" I forget if its open/close loop but it's not a simple "idle screw" adjustment.. dave
