Oil Stains in Concrete

I got a bunch of these in my garage and driveway. What's the best stuff to get them out with?

Thanks

I had the same problem before I changed my oil seal. I used concentrated Concrete Cleaner. It was a grey bottle. It says dilute 20 to 1. But I used it straight out the bottle with a hard bristle brush and a pressure washer. And the stains are still there. If you let the concetrated cleaner stay on the concrete for too long, it will discolor your driveway. I didn't have any real success. But, the cleaner, brush, and water hose will help. But, you will still see where the drops of oil use to be.

Call the pavement company and ask the # for the pavement cleaners

In the garage

I've used Simple Green to clean up spills and it works pretty well. But for saturated stains, it may not work so well..

oil stain clean up

Trick I have used for years is to pour paint thinner on the spot, and then pout cat litter on top of it all. After a day most of an old spot will be gone (may take two applications). Fresh spills usually only take one go.

Good luck,

John

Interesting... and makes sense too. Just use a good solvent of some kind like paint thinner or diethyl ether (if you're a chemist) and then soak it all up when the oil's dissolved into it. Good thinking!
