Wasn't premium fuel recommended from the factory?

So long as your knock sensor is in good shape, and everything else for that matter, then this is expected.

You'll get noticeably better gas mileage too. Typically, on most cars the whole premium vs regular is negligible and therefore pointless to go premium but for whatever reason the VE particularly loves 93 octane.

I believe the VE recommended premium from the factory due to its relatively high compression ratio (10:1 I believe).

The VQ is the same way. When I first bought my car the original owner always threw 87 in it...so I kept at it for a month to get a baseline mileage...then I started with premium (92 here in Seattle) and I got about 30% BETTER mileage with premium than I did with regular. Which makes premium cheaper to run per mile than regular.

Yeah it's just "recommended for best performance" - I think it says that right on the gas door lid even - but without it being a mandatory "premium fuel ONLY" type of thing then most people never bothered. Plus there are a lot of places in the country you can't get 93 octane. Glad I can get it all over the Dallas area.

Yeah I always thought of that as ga gray area. I know with a turbocharged engine such as the sr in my 240sx it's mandatory, but find my cheap *** self hitting the 87 button every time on everything else I own
