Problems with moonroof
Problems with moonroof
To start, I've searched the forums all day for info on this and can't find anything specific. I have a 93 Maxima SE with a very leaky moonroof. At first I thought it was the weather stripping around the glass until I found out that it was only supposed to keep air out. The problem is on the passenger side. Got lots of rain this morning and when I got in the car I noticed water dripping from the back passenger corner of the moonroof. Then after driving a bit when I came to a stop water poured down from the front passenger side. At this point I realized it was holding a decent amount of water. I've read that this could be caused by clogged drain lines, but I can't find a write-up for this particular car. I want to make sure the lines are still connected properly before I try to blow them out with compressed air. So far I have located the two drain points at the rear of the car on either side but that is all. Are there two more drain points at the front? How would I go about checking if the lines are connected to the drain pan on the moonroof? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You have to take the headliner off to access the outlets from the sunroof assembly to the hoses. The drain hoses in the front are behind the kick panels. Regardless, pull the headliner, disconnect each of the four black hoses and blow the air through. I recommend you remove the sunroof glass and look at it from the top to make sure there are no blockages preventing water from entering the drain points.

I'm a strong beleiver in working smarter, not harder. I'd suggest first fully opening the sunroof to get the glass out of the way. Then, try to blow them out at the drain openings. After doing so, test it by slowly pouring water into the drains. If one failes to drain, blow into it again. Expect some water splash back.
If that doesn't flush the drain, then I suggest pulling the kick panels and blowing air backwards up through the drains. Have a towel or something to catch the water and crap that might come out.
Then maybe pull the headliner. But I'm going to bet you'll clear those lines by the first method I mentioned.

its going to be your rear passenger drain hose, it connects to the power antennas drain hose and gets clogged where they connect. you should blow out all of the hoses for good measure but odds are this is the only one thats clogged...you still have to remove the headliner..

The steps Gregg has listed in order is basically the order we follow @work. You might have to adjust the sunroof if it's not properly seated(will cause leakage).
Well I got the front lines checked no problem. They were flowing fine and the guy told me that I didn't have back drains. Instead of arguing I called around and found another guy willing to take on the task. Got to the back drain lines by removing the two back side pillars and pulling the headline down partially. Turned out to be the rear passenger line was clogged. Umclogged with compressed air and tested by running a water hose over the sunroof and checking for proper drainage. Only cost me $20!
