1990 Maxima Tail lights dim, shut off, and sporadic
Hey anyone and everyone,
I have a 1990 Rolls Canardly which rolls down one hill but can hardly make it up the next:
(Nissan Maxima). We call it a minima because 25 years ago it was a maxima.
The tail light assembly on the driver's side have been sporadic since I've owned it (under a year). I re-wired them and they seemed to be fine for a bit (less than a month), but now the problem has returned. Here are some specifics:
--When the headlights or running lights are on, the driver side tail lights don't work properly (depending on the draw: turn signals, pressing brakes). Some level of lights always stays on, allbeit dim. tail light goes out when turn signal on, everything goes out when brakes are applied except a dim brake light glow.
--The inside of the tail light assembly had a small part of the plastic melted where it hold the bulb in place. I tested everything, and there is power going to all of it, I re-wired the brake light (which was the one that seemed to be overheating or shorting out) and everything worked for a few weeks.
I was going to try a TriNitroToluene infusion
(TNT), but I thought I would ask for help first.
Any helpful and beneficial assistance is and shall be genuinly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

That sounds like you may have a dual element bulb in a socket for single element bulb or visa-versa, I.E., 1157 in place of a 1156. Also, a dual element lamp, 1157, could have one element warped and touching the other element, giving you the same effect as the incorrect bulb situation.
It could also be a bad ground to the tail light assembly.
