Where to find ECU-1991 Maxima

I understand that the ECU is on the passenger side, below the dash. Does this mean where the flat part of the floor board, begins its angle upward, that being, the ECU is located on the angled area.

It's right behind the center kick panels. Basically under your stereo, but further forward. You get the picture. Take the kick panels off and it's right there.

Okay, I understand under the stereo, but

You say remove the kick panels, I'm not too sure what you mean. If I understand you correctly, the ECU is under the stereo. If I were to do a diagnostic test, where should I access the unit. Thanks for your help.

If you must access the ECM/ECU the access panels aka kick plates are under the dash behind stereo/climate control by the center drivetrain hump. There's one on each side L/F(by gas pedal), R/F(by left foot).
