Roof Rack

I was just wondering do any of you guys have a roof rack on your Maxima. Summer is comming and I gotta get my board to the beach somehow. I know the wind will kill me so I am looking for an easy on/easy off kind of deal

I have always had Yakima racks on my cars. Thule's cost a bit less, but I have friends who have had issues with them cracking in cold weather.

Whatever you do, DO NOT buy Saris racks. They are not secure at all, and if you mount a bike it will wobble like a weeble.

I just think Yakima makes a much better system. If the cost knocks you off your feet, check out Ebay, there are a ton of racks for sale there.

The fairing, black plastic thing says Yakima on it, makes a big difference in wind noise. I would definitely recommend getting a fairing. If you don't want to spend a fortune on the fairing, you can do what I have always done...Buy a sheet of plexiglass and trace a Yakima fairing, and make yourself one. I got a plexiglass cutter, looks like a razor blade, for like $4. Then use metal sand paper to round the edges.

I have a white car, and liked the clear vs the black for the fairing.

If you get racks, definitely get the lock cores to lock it to the roof.

Thanks. I did a search last night and think I'll just go with the ghetto "through the car" strap on style. It is quick and cheap

I tried the ghetto style but the automatic seat belts got in the way. I use the Yakima's on my 94 SE and they work great. I can carry two mountain bikes and 4 surfboards all at once. Who needs a truck when you have racks.

Wow I did not even think of that. I might still go cheap though. How does the Yakima mount?

There's no drilling of any sort, spend the extra money and get the Yakami's you won't be disappointed. At least you know your surfboard won't fly off on the freeway with Yakami's.
