No reading on thermostat

Am a electrical engineer by trade and can do most things on a car however how do i test for a faulty guage, sensor, for temperature.

Put in a new water temperature sensor threaded guage but still not reading on dash. How do I test if the wire is good or a faulty gauge. If I ground out the wire would I see something on the dash. Is there any continuity test I can do? Could I remove sensor while plugged in and put in very hot water?

Is there some kind of other relay or sending unit I am not aware of?

Are you sure you replaced the correct one? There are two, one is a SENSOR, for the ecu, the other is a SENDER for the gauge. they are two different part numbers but can be easily confused by name and appearance alone.

If it's the gxe your coolant temperature sensor if you were to stand in front of the car is on the back left side of the upper intake manifold. It also controls your fan operation. If you leave the car in idle do your fans kick on? Check the wires on the harness at that sensor. You could also try bleeding it incase you have an air lock. Bleeder screw is on the top right side of the intake manifold 8mm i believe or perhaps your thermostat could be stuck a thermostat is only about 20 bucks. If all else fails try removing the cluster from the dash and check the connection at the gauge.

Try maybe changing the thermostat and check the connection on the back of the cluster?

That's the correct temp sender unit! Open your dash and there should be spring loaded contacts on the connector lift them to provide and ensure they are providing positive contact! Sure you can also test the guage for continuity and should provide some resistance....E=IR, Lol!
