Alright, I understand that the CAI provides the engine with more air and colder air and hence more power, but how does the CAI keep the air coming in any cooler than the stock intake. I was looking at the stock intake the other day and I couldn't figure out how the air coming from right behind the grill(stock intake) could be much hotter than air coming in from the wheel well(CAI). Could someone enlighten me?

the air from a CAI is being sucked in from the wheel well...it never comes in contact with the engine bay heat hense staying cold (it will get warmed up a bit from the heat penetrating the piping)...the air in the stock intake is hot because it is warmed up by the engine bay...the stock piping doesn't do much to protect the temp. of the air flowing through it...

The statement that you made is true. It makes sense that the air would be no colder. The main differece is the filters. The CAI has a high flow cone filter compared to like a stock style Fram filter. It allows more airflow which increases your power. Also a CAI gets rid of the resonator on your stock air box and acctually provides better airflow just from that. If you want the biggest increase in power I would reccomend a custom ram-air intake. This is by far the best intake and still very new to most Max owners. It does take a lot of customization to install though.

92GXE, touring wing, 18” racing wheels, Port&Polished intake, custom intake, custom yellow interior, racing seats, back seats taken out and replaced with subs and amps, NOS kit, Suspension tech. Lowering springs, custom grille, soon to be custom painted and have the whole engine rebuilt for big shot NOS and custom SC and tranny converted to 5-speed.

ok lemme get this straight.....

so you are saying that the air that is coming in the stock intake is coming in contact with the heat of the engine bay, whearas on the CAI, the air never comes in contact with the heat of the engine bay? what about insulation, the stock intake looks like a piece of plastic that would heat up pretty much, hence heating up the air even more, does the CAI address this issue? thanks for your help

if that is the case about the CAI, what's the difference between the CAI and the JWT Popcharger and the K&N popcharger?

I would like to know if where and how big the hole in the wheel well should be in order to get a sufficient air supply. and what tool would be best to use.

the temperature of the air will be the difference..the filter for the CAI is in the wheel well where the Popchargers will be in the engine bay where the stock air box is located...

Re: now that makes sense

So for every 10º colder that the air taken in is, you gain approx 1hp. So if the stock intake air temp was 150º and the CAI was 100º you now have yourself about a 5HP GAIN Simple enough? (Is this right guys? I heard this somewhere)

I didn't start the thread. I just brought it up during another thread. The thread was something about an intake though. If you search for intake threads you will probably find it. I'll look for you tonight and I will probably find it too.
