Rear defrost switch...

... has died. The light in it doesn't light up and when I push the button a clicking noise comes from in the dash. Checked fuses, but they were fine. I need my Rdefrost so someone help me please!

nah.. I don't think it's working any more. I accidently popped the switch out when I was replacing some bulbs in my dash and when I put it back in it didn't work

How do you change the bulb for, the cruise control, foglights, and all those switches? How difficult is that task?

you must be careful when "popping" out these dash switches. the bulbs are tiny, which thus makes them weak. all you did was break the inner components of the bulb. the switches do come apart in order to service the bulbs...i haven't had to do it in a while, but it's not too tough, and they all take the same bulbs, including the climate control lights, hazard, etc. the bulbs are sold in 2-packs at radioshack, and run about $1 each. just take one switch apart, i think the defrost one is the easiest, and you'll get the idea.

i have always taken apart the dash to get the switches out...only takes 2-3 minutes, and you can slowly take them out, preventing any plastic breakage, or damaging other bulbs. once the trim piece is off, the switches do pop out...press fimly yet carefully.

You are correct. My defrost DOES work. Thanks for the bulb info. I didn't know the switches could be easily taken apart and the bulbs replaced. I appreciate the help.

I just went to radioshack, and they did not have the correct bulb. For the fog light switch which is stock, there is a litte grey rubber piece that holds the bulb in place. WHere do i get this bulb. Do i have to go to nissan. How much does the foglight switch cost, cause i pretty much screwed it up taking it out

radio shack DOES have the bulbs. you have to take the old one out of the rubber base, and sort of re-wire in the new bulb, and trim the extra length on the wires. the bulbs are not exactly the same...i think they are a little larger, but have the same mA rating, and fit the rubber base/boot very nicely. i have done this on at least 3 of my switches, and all work fine. bring in the old bulb, and look for yourself. if still you can't find it, i'll get the radio shack bulb number when i go home for lunch.

12v micorlamps about 60mA current
272-1092
from Radio Shack

or 900-2616 (I went to a radioshack.com store near me and they dont have the 272 series stuff)

last time I was at RS in the mall though, they had 5 packs of the 272-1092 about 1.50 for 2 bulbs

you will have to take off the trim piece which is easy, then unplug the switches and pop them out
there will be tabs on the side that you pry open with a screwdriver, stuff may fall out so be careful not to loose it
some switches just have a little bulb holder that screws in teh back so you wont have to take it apart
either way, find teh bulb holder, take it out, remove bulb, fold new lamps "legs" to match how they were before, plug in and you're set (they dont have polarity so either end will work)

sorry no pics, I was in a hurry last time I did it

wire leg positioning

What are the positions for the wire legs for the bulbs?

as for the bearings, that was a pain, just keep at it
a tiny bit of grease might help hold it long enough for you to close the switch

I'm not sure what you mean by the legs question, there are 2 holes in teh bottom of the lamp holders and they go through there (doesn't matter which side is which - no polarity). Then you have to bend them all weird like they were in before. I can't really describe it but it shouldn't be bad.

there are 2 types of holders for these bulbs
one is the kind that screws out of the back of the switch
the other is a little rubber rectangle that slides over 2 posts

the first works by making contact on the top side (where the bulb points) with the legs touching a metal strip on the receiving side; for these, make sure the legs get folded across the top part

for the rectangular ones, they make contact with those 2 posts that the rubber piece slides onto. make sure one wire will touch each when it is installed

its hard to try to describe this so just take apart another switch and look how it's bulb is oriented and match that

good luck

Thanks craig for the help, i just decided to spend the 20$ and order a new switch, I have no time, to mess around with it. But now i have a bigger problem. The gauge lights do not work, the light above the headunit does not work. What happened? Do you think it could just be a loose connection with the dimmer lights or its a fuse.? Thanks for your time and help

probably a fuse if all the lights went out
make sure when you replaced the bulb that you plugged everything back in and did not short out the two legs (they are not touching)

send me the switch and I'll replace it for $5

seriously, email me craigbrace@hotmail.com if you're interested

Re: Re: Re: Re: legs still

I just took apart the casing again, and the dimmer switch is not working, its get stuck and what not. Could the switch be my problem? Also i know this may sound stupid, but which are the fuses for the lighting such as gauge and instruments, and all other light fuses.

if the dimmer switch is your problem, it would have blown a fuse, unplug just the dimmer swithc, replace the fuse and try the lights

all fuses are described on my site
should be about the 3rd 10A one down on the left side

honestly, I'm not sure

I think it should work without taht switch plugged in (it will work without others) but that being the dimmer it might do something weird

sorry
