Keypad Replacement Time

Greetings all!

Well, we've finally worn out a keypad, and I've not seen one on eBay yet.

One of more of the "buttons" quit working, and it seems to be an item that is not repairable -

We've got a busted off key in the lock anyway, been there for years, so we can fix a couple issues at once -

Anyone replaced the keypad before?

Replace the whole handle assembly?

Pic-A-Part?

Get one from a junk yard or .org member. You can keep the existing door handle, just swap the key pad over. You have to remove the lock tumbler before you can take the light socket out of the key hole. Pay attention to how things are and you should be OK. I just went through this myself with both front doors.

Take time and don't rush, any questions I'll try and help. If you can't find one let me know, also the passenger key pad will work on the driver side with a little mod to the mounting tab.

Once you have the door panel off, window up, there are 3 10mm bolts holding the handle on, 2 inside the door cavity and one on the outer edge of the door.

Thanks again - they seem to be $20-30 on eBay, some delivered, if anyone here had one in the same price range or less and took PayPal, I'd be a buyer!

Rather spend money here....

I am going to the yard tomorrow and will check to see if there are some out there. I have a set but the drivers side pad is not the best however the passenger side looks good, they both worked when I pulled them off. You can modify the mounting tabs and make the passenger side work on the drivers side if that's what you want to do.

Awesome! I'm with you on the better looking pad, and modifiying it should not be a problem

Went out to the pick n pull today and found only 1 good keypad but it's on the passenger side. Some of the numbers have wear but all buttons feel good. I have to go back out there in the morning to snag the idle control units from 2 VG engines and will pull the door handle then.

I got both cam sprockets from the 94 VG but I did not have the right tools with me to get the manual trans out of the 90 VG.

I went back to the yard and pulled the door handle. I removed the keypad and all associated hardware that goes with it. There's some cosmetic wear on numbers 3/4 and 5/6 but its actually better than the spare one I have.

Let me know if you want it and I will send it to you.

Sorry, I had to drive 1950 miles this week and I just got to my computer.

I ordered a window regulator on eBay from this company: carpartswholesale - Click Here for Details

Over the years, I thought I'd learned to avoid a seller with any bad feedback, yet I failed to follow my own rule, and I've paid the price.

I arrived home after dropping the rental car, it started raining. We're leaving tomorrow at 6:00AM to take my son to college 6 hours away. He is taking the car, I wanted the window fixed at least.

Hot, humid, we started on the project because he had to leave to spend time with his friends tonight, before leaving, I understand that.

He also mentioned the car is due for an oil change, oh, we have no oil, no filter, and now we're in a extra bit of a hurry -

We get the old regulator removed, I go to swap motors and found this -

I'm sorry I did not get back with any of you, it's been a hell of a week, and this is not how I wanted it to end, but it did.

I appreciate your efforts, not sure I'm ready to make any decisions on anything right now. My head is splitting from the week, thank you all for everything, sincerely, I appreciate it.

I had the same issue with the drivers front regulator as you did. I ordered a front left and rear right from the same company and got the square mount on the front. Needing my window fixed I used a dremel and made it work. Funny that they are still selling them as I brought it up and sent them pictures of everything. They gave me a $5 or $10 refund (can't remember) for my troubles. This guy looks to have gotten a similar one as well. https://maxima.org/forums/3rd-genera...car-these.html

I guess its true, you get what you pay for.

It's JC Whitney, and while they truly suck, what's worse is that now even the BBB is as reputable as JD Powers - They should both be sued into oblivion!
