Puzzle with shifter

So I had my 94 in to have the belts, coolant and broken thermostat replaced and when I'm driving out, the gear shifter (automatic) was tight and when I tried to move it to 1 or 2 to test it, it wouldn't go. I stopped the car and it worked fine, then it acted up again. My dad was driving behind me and said my rear brake light was shorted. I opened it up and replaced the defective bulb and the car has been fine over the past 2 days.

BTW, I replaced the gear shifter bushings 6 months ago, so it isn't that and the tranny only has 109k on it and has been smooth as ever. Is it a coincidence that the car was at the shop. Could they have moved something that caused this? Or is the shifter lock circuit the culprit, thinking the brake wasn't depressed and locking the gear shift because the bulb was shorted? Is that crazy?

Weird.
