cup holder

thought someone might be interested in the two cup holder i made for the maxima.it is made of 1/8 inch black plastic that can be heated (warmed ) in the oven and formed.it folds UP into the EMPTY space in the armrest when not in use.when folded out it sits between the seats parallel with the ebrake resting on the angle down from armrest ebrake still works if properly adjusted...holds medium size drinks, wendys, powerade etc..two 3inch holes cut into it.i formed it around two vhs tapes with doors removed and taped together then wrapped in tin foil.. would try a two by four bit of wood next time however as vhs plastic started to warp a little.. used small brass hinges with screws and a little bit of two part epoxy glue just to make sure screws dont loosen.only holes in the car are small ones in the underside of the armrest on either side of the latch.costs under 20 dollars for everthing or(5 bucks US)ha ha ..
if interested reply and i can fill you in with a few other minor things to keep in mind...

Re: cup holder

Why didn't you just buy a factory cupholder. It would look better and not require all that extra work. Well, If every penny counts, I guess you got what you wanted. To each his own.

It goes right below the CD player.

But it BLOWS! Old fable: buy drink, put drink in cupholder, take moderate corner, spill drink, spend the rest of the day cursing and cleaning it up. Hasn't happened to me yet, but I came close more than once.

92se, do you have any pics of this invention? I thought I knew what you were talking about but then you started talking about VHS cases and tinfoil!

thx

i have the sony tape deck and cd player so unable to use factory one...but i agree they suck..i used a couple of vhs tapes to form the plastic around.. only thing i could find around the house at the time..i'll try and get some pictures of it..works great ..it folds up
underneath and into the space of the padded portion of the armrest which is space generally not used..look at the letter D on your keboard and rotate it 90 deg. clockwise thats what it would look like
if you looked through either the end of it.. the flat top of it would be where you cut hte 3inch holes.of course where the plastic is brought close together there is a gap and its this gap and the flex in the plastic which holds it up in the armrest.. hope that helps...
