3rd gen ecu

Anyone have any experience in using different year of ecu. I have an ecu and tcu from a 94 gxe non abs and was going to use it in my 92 also non abs. Any feedback or anyone think it would work with no issues?

Of course there'll be no problem at all. I've used several random VE ECU's in each of my VE's over the years. It's all the same.

I think the ABS has its own "brain" in the trunk anyway. But non-ABS to non-ABS, any ABS worry is moot anyway.

Thanks James The reason I ask is I failed etest but after having a shop with a gas analizer check it over it wound up being my cat. Swapped it out and it passed no problem but when it was failing it was on high hydrocarbons on idle so thinking it was running rich I had the timing on my vg retarded/advanced to try and find the right numbers the numbers did change but not enough to pass now after adjusting the timing I believe its thrown off the tune that was done by the tuner which was chipped in the ecu. The car seems to run great when warm but first start in the morning has a bad mis until it warms up so I was thinking of swapping my ecu to see if that changes. The only difference between my 92 and the 94 is fuel rail, lower intake but very slight difference and oval top injectors on the 94 and square top on mine along with square and round tooth timing belts but being its the same generation and hp rating i wouldn't think there would be much if any difference in flow rate or pattern on the injectors. I was curious because they seem to have so many different numbers on ecu's and i wasnt sure why and what the differences were between the numbers written on the ecu's. If it works out im just looking to swap it until i get the headers i got put on then I'll probably take it back to the tuner though the chipped tune wasn't a huge gain being im n/a and not boosted but it did make enough difference to make it a little more fun to drive.

What do you mean tuner chipped your ECU?

Do you have Nistune or JWT ECU or some sort of those Zemulator deals?

Im not the most knowledgeable on the tuning side but I believe it's like a zemulator. He basically soldered a chip in it he hooked a laptop up and was able to manipulate things for example he set the rpm limit to 2,500 just to show how he had control and then stepped on the throttle and it wouldn't go any higher than 2,500 rpm. He then did a run on the dyno changing the mapping with his computer and after all was said and done soldered the programmed chip to the board in the ecu where the stock one was. Im wondering if I can get back to factory by swapping the ecu with the stock 94 one I have for the time being until I can get back to see him. Adjusting the timing from the distributor has thrown off what he's done im thinking and that's why I'm experiencing the misfire until the cars warmed up.

Weird. You don't have any extra info like business/tuner name? What did your car put out on the dyno?

RS tuning he does alot of 300zx and skylines. I only gained about 12-14hp at the wheels not so sure it was worth the $3-$400 i paid. It was a couple years ago so i can't remember the final numbers but it was only about 12-14hp above stock. I had the exhaust done from front to back and had the pop charger. Guess i was hoping just to get a little more out it n/a at the time. It wouldn't be as much to have him make some adjustments to smooth it out again after throwing things off by adjusting the timing at the distributor but in the meantime i'd like to know if putting in the stock 94 ecu will work o.k in my 92 because im curious to see if it'll take care of the misfire i've been getting being adjusting the timing has obviously thrown off what he had done.
