high mileage

Hey people

Does anyone know on average how many miles can a 1990 maxima go before it is considered no longer useful? Of course provided that the car recieves regular oil change every 3000 miles and necessary engine repairs.

For the most part the VG engines as in your 90 have served thier owners well

I'm not really sure what you mean by "no longer useful". Most people basically just keep cars until they encounter major drivability problems - whenever that may be. Then they either shell out the money to fix "X" problem or just dump the car. If cared for though, your engine should last a very very long time. I think it's all the other niggly peripheral and suspension/body parts that begin wearing out that does it in.

Ignoring the engine/tranny, my bro's 93 SE 5sp still runs fine. Suspension is definitely dying, if not dead already. Front bumper paint's chipping, but rest of the body looks good. No rust. Leather seats look good except the driver seat (just worn, but not nasty). Cruise control's a lil funky, but we're driving enthusiasts so we don't need it. AC's still dang cold (don't think it's been recharged before). Rear defroster lines are good. Fit and finish of the car, You can't go wrong!

My bro's got 197,000 on the car. VE ticks, but still has lotsa power. Lil wine from the power steering. 5sp gets stuck in reverse once a month. Water pump was replaced 2 years ago (round trip to/from work is 120miles). The car's all stock right now.
