1993 Auto Transmission Leak

Has anyone seen this before? Thanks.

I get a pretty much constant drip when the car is running. Nothing when it's not.

Since it's coming out of the bell housing, could be a front seal in the tranny. If your GXE hasn't had a transmission rebuild yet, w/ 184k miles you're about due!!

Snake Oil

I'm going with the Lucas stop slip and we'll see what happens.

I guess im a lucky few with 230,000km and no issues as of yet. A tranny specialist i know is kind of amazed. Ive had the car about 8yrs. Not sure if the previous owner had a rebuild though the car only had about 120,000km when i bought it.

Im not 100% but ive heard lucas swells o rings and seals etc.and may be o.k for a temporary fix but im not sure if in the long run it causes more problems then it does good or good for a long term fix. Might be a good idea just to ask a tranny shop their opinion as long as theyre a reputable shop and not just out to take you for a ride and can just give an honest opinion.

Sure you can try the stop-leak-slip oil, but it's only a matter of time. 230,000km = 142000miles and that's where my 90 GXE tranny died. My 94 GXE died somewhere around 125,000 miles.
The shops will tell you "good luck" but when the tranny slips, leaks, doesn't shift, etc. you have to get a rebuild.
I do remember my shop, Plano Automatic Transmission (Jeff McLeod, owner) told me he had to remachine the case (?) put in a new torque converter and put in a hard shift kit to limit the friction during shifting. Cost = $1500 back in ~2004. These trannies are still cheaper to rebuild than modern trannies from 2000 on up.
Good luck with it!!

front torque converter seal.

keep driving..just know that it will eventually get worse and check the ATF level...a lot.

the pump is behind the seal so once it totally goes it's going to be pouring ATF out of that weep hole. so have a few quarts handy just in case it goes when you're on the road.
