I am about to drive from TX to NJ in about a month. I need to know what I have to do to my Max in order to make it as trouble free as possible. Any tips on how to improve mpg would help alot too. Its a 93 SE, Auto with 99k.

make sure the car is in good tune.. (good plugs, good O2 sensor, etc)...

if you haven't changed your O2 sensor, it's a good time.. they usually last about 100k miles.

check the air in your tires and change the oil and tranny fluid before you go.. make sure you do it at least a day before, just in case there are complications.. don't try to get the stuff changed on your way out of town, because Murphy's Law states: "If you try to get your car worked on the morning you are planning to leave, the service man WILL break a part that takes a week to order."

other than that, that's about it.. having the correct tire pressure and engine in good tune will be the best thing you can do.

Gas Mileage

Depending on how you drive, you should get about 400 miles to a full tank of gas, driving between 70-80 mph in mild terrain. There are so many variables though...# of passengers, wind, hills/mountains, etc... On long trips, I try to take advantage of downhill grades, and get up to 80-90 mph: that seems to help mileage. As Matt93GXE said, the more tuned your engine is, the better mileage you will get. Tire inflation also has a lot to do wil mileage. Take as few stops as possible, because getting back up to highway speeds in a hurry will ruin any good mileage you had going. I hope this rambling helps. Have a good trip!

Murphy's Law:
a "mythical" person.. basically it means "If it can possibly go wrong, it will"

Like the day you finally break down and wash the car, it rains 1 hr later..

like you bust your **** and save up enough cash to buy the new rims you want, then you buy them and mount them on the car and they don't fit..

you buy a brand new shirt and go out on a date.. blow a tire and get all greasy changing the tire in the rain (since you just washed your car this afternoon, it decided to rain)

shall I go on?
