Ok so there is this lady at work. The other night she went to get in her car (some late 80s import ,i froget) and set of the alarm off and she could not get it to go off or start the car. I noticed that the alarm sounded weak and assumed it was a back-up battery and that her regular battery had died. So I gave her a jump and she was able to shut the alarm off and start the car. The next day her husband came in and told me what I did was wrong, the alarm was coincidental and the car wasn't starting because of a safety feature that would not let the car start when it was low on oil! He than said that I had somehow reset the ECU when I jumped it witch allowed it to start even though the problem was still present. PLEASE tell me he is on crack this can not be real. Even if it was true (although I have never heard of this ever) he acted as though I was better of letting her walk home in a "scummy" neighborhood at 10 at night. I am so ****ed!!!!!!

I'd tell the guy that if he's getting ****ed at YOU about giving his wife a jumpstart, then maybe he ought to maintain her car a little better so it doesn't happen again. she's lucky you were around to help get her home. as you said, leaving a woman in a scummy 'hood at 10pm isn't exactly right.

Good greif! He's full of it. Unless it's some kind of fancy German car I seriously doubt an old car like that would have some safety feature related to the oil level! Resetting the ECU by giving a jumpstart? Yeah right! The battery was DEAD - that'll reset the ECU for you!

He's just proving his manhood and usefulness to himself by coming in there and pretending to show you up. What a jerk. Do a favor for someone these days and what do you get? ..... sigh.

You did the right thing 100%.

actually, there Is such a thing as a starter interrupt.. I don't remember what make of cars they're on, but it's a pretty common import.
I know a few people that it's happened to, but it doesn't work like that.. basically is just cuts off the starter period.. everything else will work, but you click to the "Start" position on the key and nothing happens.

Of course, before is ever gets to this point, it flashes a "low oil" light on the dash for quite a while before it won't actually start.

wish I could remember what car that was.
