Removing the black fender mouldings?

I was wondering if anyone has taken the black strip that goes around the fender around the wheel opening off. I hate the way they look, I already took the door guards off and it looks better, but it would look much better with the fender guards off. I'm just wondering what it looks like underneath and how hard it is. Thanks!

I don't want to be rude or anything but I think they did come with the package that has the door mouldings on some years. Check out this thread http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ghlight=fender you know how the fender has a cut out for the wheel/wheel well, it follows the cutout right above it on the outside. I'm just worried that I get one off and it looks like crap underneath and then I have to glue it back on.

don't worry it's not rude.
the molding in that post is the body color moulding on the 4 doors..abour 1.5 inch in width.

what you're talking about is the trim on the lip of the fender that didn't come stock.

u can use the similar similar cleaning method for your fender moulding like in the post.

i'm 100% sure on the moulding part.

hey i took those ugly fender mouldings off too. its like a foam adhesive tape stuff. all i did is peel the moulding off, then use some mineral spirits(or similar product) to wear down the adhesive(be sure to wipe dry right afterwards b/c it will corrode paint) then i rubbed off the adhesive with my thumb, and then you could wax it or pt some color back wax on it. it looks 100 times better

i always wondered if it came on some 90 models too. i see alot around where i live with the black trim around the fenders. it looks really out of place on there. it will definitly look 100 times better when you get that strip off.

I think the moldings definitely came from the factory, since my car too has them. I've seen several other 3rd gen's with them also.

They could be dealer-added things, which was very common for Japanese cars (like adding A/C to Hondas for years).

I got them off yesterday and it looks so much better. I used a plastic spatula to scape the foam stuff off and then some simple green and a sock to clean the rest off. I should have pics this weekend.
