Recircukate Switch

Can anybody please explain how the recirculate switch works on my 89...Does it control a motor that closes / opens a door? The hot/cold lever works and all the buttons work fine...any suggestions? help..Thanks,Jeff

the hot/cold lever operates a water valve to allow or shut off hot engine coolant into the heater core. No doors or air duct changes are made by this lever.

There are 2 doors, though. The recirculate/fresh air door and the door that selects the air outlets, i.e., floor, dash, defroster.

see pages 117 & 118 in the link below for the recirculate and mode door motors.
