You will get more power by having a larger gap. A larger spark will ignite the fuel mixture faster. In order to go to a larger gap, you need to have a more powerful coil to generate a spark to jump the larger gap. But you ask about a difference of .001 and that won't make any difference

Wish I had the money for a new performance coil.

What about if I jump from .044 to .05. would that make any difference? And id love New coil but can't afford. Sorry

last VE30DE 92 SE maxima i had-spark plug gap(owners book and factory manual showed "do not gap/platinum/pre set" but....
what bothered me was seeing 1 old listing showing a gap of 0.34 to 0.44 ( 0.44 being the wear limit )
bought new NGK platinums at local parts store was told "pre set/ do not gap/platinum"
I gently/carefully checked gap as I Installed in parking lot,all were @0.44 so I carefully adjusted without scratching off platinum tip
to the smaller end of the factory specified gap range 0.34 by the time those 90k mile platinum plugs are ready for the next set they likely will be closer o 0.44
im open to discussion
