Finally PR CAI...
Finally PR CAI...
I finally received my Place Racing CAI.
I had a quick question. I have a black & decker jig saw, is this good enough to cut the hole needed. If it is, what kind a saw blade do you guys recomend? Do i need a special one to cut though the metal? I did a search but could not find anything on the type of saw you are supposed to use. Thanks in advance Richard.

Re: Finally PR CAI...
i dono really, sorry, but if you used a jigsaw you would need something to punch a pilot hole first i'm assuming. and you should've went with the WSP (warpspeedperformance) CAI, but i guess you wanted to spend the extra $$$.

i used a power drill and drilled about 50 holes to make one big hole and then filed it down to smooth the cut, where there is a will there is a way, i must admit the growl is worth the tediousness, especially in 1st gear
CAI size
I double checked with Dallas tonight. We have had Maximas in the shop here before, the PR is 3" just like ours. No difference in performance, big difference on price. BTW we only use K&N filters. They come in a K&N box.

wow, i dunno how you're gonna maneuver a jig in the lil space...it's darn tight in there.
My choice of weapon would be a hole drill w/proper size diameter. I coulnd't find a metal ver @ the hardware store though...all had wood ver, which probably would get dull before making a scratch.
My 2nd choice would be a reciprocating saw...very maneuverable and sharp. Just file the edges when you're done.
My 3rd choice is dremel. This's slow as heck, but probably the cleanest and most accurate. Watch out for flying bits of hot metal!!! I took this approach when installing CAI in my gf's Altima.
nardo'89SE's suggestion of drilling holes is great. I would modify it by saying drill the holes around the diameter, then hacksaw it off...it should be cleaner than drilling too many holes.
Most laborous method is hack saw...I would rather die than do this.
1 more suggestion. If you have your template, cut out the middle (where pipe goes). Then lay the template down. Take a sharpie and color the area in the middle hole. When you start cutting, the idea is to make a hole so that you can't see any of the sharpie markings. Worked perfectly for me and my hole's snug!
Good luck dood!

CAI install
Try install like this. Mark hole like Thursnete said. Drive to nearest muffler shop. Cover car and tire with a tarp, have them cut hole with a plasma cutter, takes about 30 sec. Go home smooth her out with a dremel. Finish install. Probably cost 10 bucks. Muffler shop guys love using those things, just make sure your car is protected from sparks.Thats how mine was done. I couldn't watch though, Dallas had that crazy look in his eyes. Don't **** off the guy with the plasma cutter.

i TRIED to get a WSP CAI, only problem was i couldn't get ahold of ANYONE !
Called i don't even know how many times, and left a couple messages and never got back to. Was so ready to buy to. Now my clutch is shot and i gotta buy Clutch and Flywheel.
Dallas and Dan, if your reading you need a secritery. And me a discount when i do decide to buy the CAI again.

Sith, you are correct. Dallas is so damn busy most of the time he has a hard time keeping up with the mail and phone calls. Our sister will soon be answering the phone. Lynne is currently studying so she can be up to speed with all the products we are making. I consider her the real brain of the family. With her on the phone it will free us up and help customers get orders addressed quickly. We appreciate constructive critism and we try hard to listen to the customer. Dallas and I are always open to new ideas, don't hesitate to send us mail if you think we can make a product better,or if you have a new idea. Maximamike did, and now we have the SFCs. He also gave us other ideas that we are looking into

i do have a ? for you though.
What gauge of piping do you use on your CAI's and Y-Pipe, cat-backs?
I'm currently trying to figure out piping on a turbo project, and was wondering what gauge/thickness you guys use, so i can buy the stick of piping.

heehee...getting body work professionally done by a muffler shop. I remember asking the shops around me if they would do it and each one said no for various reasons...I figured they were all bs'ing me.
If you could, the $10 will save u lotsa time and headache.
