Replacing manual climate with auto...
Just saw some of FAST4's crash pics, and saw the auto climate in one of the crashed cars and i was wonderin , how hard, $$, and even will it work do you think to buy and transport that unit into a car with the manual version, is it even possible?
It can be done, but ....
It's possible, but you actually need to change some of the ducting system, especially where the various doors/gates are actuated, as well as the blower.
Essentially, you would need to rip the entire dash out of your Max and be prepared for some serious work. I've got an automatic climate control unit here, but after seeing the rest of the ducting system in the fully optioned (read: junked) Max, I came to the conclusion that it is just not worth it at all.

For a while we had a 2nd gen Max with climate control (this went along with the digital dash). You set the temperature and the car does the rest. Didn't like it at all. The system would always try to change the ambient temp to the desired temp as fast as possible. So when it would cool or heat the car the fan was go to the higest setting: very noisy. There was also no easy manual over ride of the AC compressor.
I don't know if the 3rd gen implementation was any more sophisticated. FWIW, I also hated the digital dash display.

I haven't seen too many other 3rd. gen's with this option. It's weird because mine is a GXE which originally was not loaded...the previous owner installed aftermarket leather, sunroof, spoiler. I guess originally my car had the climate control and Bose options.

It's possible, but as TheMax said, it's not gonna be fun.. you DO have to rip out the entire dash and replace most of the elctronics inside the dash.. the parts needed- even salvaged parts- will run you several hundred bucks..
labor is even worse, as a shop will charge about $1000 to do the conversion.
IMO, it's just not worth it for a different display. so what if you have to reach over and adjust a **** every few minutes to keep the temp comfy? it's not worth $1500 and months of electrical problems until you get it all sorted out!
