Any OGs still around!?

Hey guys, haven't been here in like 10 years! Was just reminiscing about my black VE 5spd, and decided to stop by and see if there is any life left here.. how is the 3rd gen scene nowadays? It's very sad to see most of these cars are junked or rust buckets with no love, and the rare VE seems nearly impossible to find with a 5spd. I bought mine in 2006 for $2k, had a blast with it! Thing was reliable and fast for 190hp. Hit 145mph+ with it, and smoked newer maximas and bimmers with it on top end that had much more HP haha.. no one wanted it when I tried selling it for the same price in 08' so I sold it to my friend for 800 bucks and he destroyed it over the next few years :-( .. now I see how hard these cars are to find, and sell for 10k. Regret letting mine go. If I didn't already have an e46 bimmer and an RX8, I'd Def get one again. I bet there's no more mods available. So any OGs left? Matt93se, danNY, jeff92se, cliff clavin, craig, aaron92se, internetautomar, etc. Off the top of my head lol. Sorry if I forgot anyone. I even remember you guys on the 4dsc.com message boards in the very early 2000s when I had my GXE.. ah the good ol days. This place was on fire back then. chime in if you're still here! Let's not let the 3rd gens die!

I'm still alive lol I let mine go in 2011 when the transmission started slipping and motor got rod knock, a few people saw it at pick n pull with all the custom parts I left on it removed. I bought my Crown right after and when I cooked the engine in 2021 dumped $60k into restoring it and 2JZ swapping it

Dan unfortunately passed away from cancer a few weeks ago, his obituary is below

Oh man, that's horrible. Still a young guy with young kids. So sad. This life is crazy. We just never know what horrors are lurking around the corner...

Anyway, good to see some OGs still here. Crown? I thought you meant crown vic for a sec till I looked at your profile lol. You had it imported or someone else did? Pretty cool to have a 2J in that. You must really love it to put that much money into it. I recently got a non running RX8 because I was bored.. also put way too much than I wanted to into it. Still a work in progress but it runs now. Suspension next.

I had a friend import it then decided he wanted a V8 model and sold it to me, I daily'd it to 350k km until 2021 then got a 2JZGTE tore down and rebuilt while the chassis got rebuilt then the drivetrian swapped. After owning it for a decade it grew on me enough I was willing to dump the money and I picked up a sponsorship on a custom turbo manifold and turbo as long as I display the car at a few local shows lol

Otherwise there's still a few OG people around, it seems like a chunk haven't logged in since Covid blew up early 2020 and forums in general are dying out because of Facebook groups and such which is a shame because this place form 2000-2010 era is a goldmine of information stored

It's had 5 window limo tint for years but before it was resprayed last year I bought a new old stock duckbill spoiler off Yahoo auctions, I told them not to respray the beige and to just do whatever white they want on top and 2 tone with silver on the bottom and they ended up doing the pearl white from an Infiniti G37 on top and some Toyota Camry or something silver on the bottom and theyre just finishing replacing small trim pieces. Even with how rusty and rotted the fenders were and how dented it was the bodywork only added up to $15k, tearing down the 2JZGTE to rebuild and get to 600+hp and the Haltech 2500 PCM/custom wiring harness among other stuff was most of the bill. Most replacement stuff I sourced through overseas connections I have, Toyota Canada will pretty much tell you kick rocks if you want assistance with anything JDM. Nissan Canada is 1000x better and will transfer parts from their Japan dealerships for you and such lol

I still have mine, it gave me issues so I have a new daily driver while I save up and research what I am going to do with it. The engine still runs well and doesn't burn oil, but the wiring harness is pretty much shot. I do start it from time to time and let it warm up, it is a wonderful sound.

my new daily driver. . . Great in the snow and on dirt roads up here in Idaho.

I just logged in after nearly 3 years. I started driving my Max again since my other car is currently at a body shop .

Like others, I just found out about Dan's passing. Was very sad to find out about the news.

Do any of you OGs have any tips on replacing a water pump in the VE 5-speed? Can get it off, but not out. I’ve only found forums stating it’s a pain but not the solution on how to get it out. 😫. This is my last effort to save this car before I call Pick n Pull to haul it off. 🙁. I’ve had her 23 years.

HELP! ve30de water pump removal - Maxima Forums

needed to remove the alternator, move the compressor out of the way then remove the mounting bracket. now that I've done it once it wont be such a big deal the second time. big pain in the *** figuring out how to manipulate the pump the get it in and out of the engine compartment.
someone later states they did it without removing the alternator but they had to worm the pump around. I would just remove the alternator, swing the compressor out of the way then remove the bracket. Looks like it just needs a fair bit of wiggling

I don't play with Maximas anymore, but this thing has a built VG that's boosted. S14 rear subframe, 350Z diff/ Kaaz LSD, lowered on coilovers and the list goes on.

I'm still here, she's still running. Getting ready to do a alternator swap and motor mounts. I had water drain in the drivers floor while sitting up, so I'm going to pull and replace the carpet. She now has about 225K miles and engine and tranny are strong.

when i did mine i believe i loosened a motor mount or two and used a long pry bar and a friend to gain just enough clearance to get it done with out the need to remove components but my memory could serve me wrong about how much other stuff i pulled out but the motor mounts and pry bar will help 100% I know I am late to the party but it helps for future documentation .

Well I got her back on the road again. Ended up replacing the crankshaft seal, ASP motor mounts. Turns out my alternator was good, AutoZone said it was bad, when I checked my belts there was none to be found. 😭😭😭

Still here every now and then! Started from before there was such a thing as forums and there were mailing lists in the mid 90's. My Maximas are long gone but I still remember them fondly.

I'm still around with 5 3rd gens but one is now a parts car because I sold it to my brother and he got rear ended, so I bought that one back from the insurance to strip. Then my prize joy Fantasma is sitting in the garage on 4 jack stands needing a lot of TLC but buying a house has taken priority over her.

Older than what my account says but I was banned on my original account long ago. lol

I post with sadness, 91 SE with VE 5, turbo, too much to list was stolen. I have so many parts still, want to rebuild but I’ll never find a clean 91 again.

Damn son long time no see!

I kept my 3rd gen from 2005-2016... In fact I've been keeping my eye out for some insanely mint VE-5. I know there's gonna be one out there that's going to pop out one day and I'll be snatching it.

For the time being I currently own a 2002 6spd (since 2012) my 2005 SL since 2015 and it's my mom's car now, and my daily driver which is my 2014 that I 6 SPD swapped back in 2021 after warranty expired

Can't believe this place is still up and running. Mine made 220k miles, and was scrapped in 2017. I probably won't get another 3rd gen, but I'm always tempted by an 80s Z

I'd love a 240z or 280z myself but those are becoming more and more difficult to find as well...

My 3rd gen Maxima days are long behind me, but I still pop into the forums every so often to read what's going on in the community.

Last I checked the parts from my car went on give new life to many others... Carbon fiber hood, polished trans, lip kit, suspension bits, etc... I do sometimes think about the custom trunk lid with center panel delete, and wonder where it ended up.
