is there not a shift release so you can drop it into neutral without having to step on the brakes? (step on the brakes anyway before you start rolling.)
check at the front of the geat shifter, to the very bottom, there should be a little thing there, press it down, and shift into neutral. then try starting the car.

instead of swapping batteries with another car..why don't you just have your car jump started? saves alot of time.
If you don't have tools, I would suggest you buy a portable charger. Keep it in the trunk in case your battery ever dies on you, you can jump the battery without asking anyone for help or without getting angry at the car. they cost like $50 or less..i always have mine..even though I never needed it.
Another thing..i don't see how your dome light killed your battery. When you get the car running again, have the battery and your alternator tested.
