Questions about 94 GXE

I've been offered a good deal on a 94 GXE, but had a few questions about it. I've had a couple people tell me that it's got the 190HP in it, but from what I've read on this site it should only have the 160 right? Do you think that $7,500 is a good price for this car? It only has 63K on it, full paint job (I think it's called Emerald Green), a spoiler off a newer max (has the LED brake light), remote start and remote keyless entry, and Tinted windows. No Mods. It sure beats my current transportation ('85 Accord).

it's actually called Black emerald. beautiful color. (I used to have one).

Yes, the GXE has 160hp.

63k is very low mileage on the car, but that doesn't make it worth $7500!
it's worth closer to $6500, even with the rest of the stuff on it.

Then again, I don't know what condition the paint and body are, but for that price, it shouldn't have a scratch on it. You should be able to get it down to at least 7000 and still be doing them a $500 favor.

I forgot to mention it has the ABS and the guy is going to throw in two sets of tires. One is a set of Blizzak's for winter, and the other is a set of Michelin. Not sure of the exact model of either of these. When I look up retail value (www.kbb.com) on this car, it gives me $8,500 with the options. This seems pretty high though. The body is in mint/excellent condition, and there is no rust, which is why it's worth more up here in the north where rust is a problem. I suppose the fact that you're lucky if you can even find a maxima for sale up here makes its sale value go up a bit.

That's a rare Maxima. See if you can get 7K for it. That's VERY low mileage for a 3rd gen Max. See if the timing belt, PCV valve, Thermostat and Water Pump have been replaced per the 60K mile maintenance. If not, tell 'em no more than 7K. There should be a sticker under the hood beside the emissions sticker indicating that the belt has been changed.

yup.. what he said.

being in good body condition and up north puts a huge premium on the price... the extra set of wheels and Blizzaks are worth a bit too.
in that case, 7500 might be justified, but I would offer them about 6700 or 7000 and start the bidding from there. as long as you stay under about 7500, then you get a good car for a decent/good price.

with all those extras, I would be willing to pay up to 8000 for it, if it's really in excellent condition.

KBB is almost always high. I found NADA (see http://www.nadaguides.com ) to better match the real world.

I think $7500 is a bit on the high side if it's not through a retailer with some warranty coverage. If the rest checks out I'd go between 6500 and 7000 (with the goodies).

You can also check www.traderonline.com to get an idea what others are running for...

Good Luck and let us know what you decide.

Thanks for the links, now I have even more info to use in my buying decision. This is my first real car purchase (worth more then 2K), so I'm trying to do as much as I can to make sure I'm getting something I'm going to like. From what I've read on this forum, I can't seem to go wrong with the Maxima though.

Also, Badaxxima said this is a rare maxima. What's the reasoning behind this? Nissan just decide not make many this particular year?

No, but a 3rd generation Maxima with only 63K, good paint, no rust and ABS is a rare Maxima indeed. Just hard to find, especially ABS.
