What is the highest RPM I should go with my new tranny?
I shall be picking her up today with a new tranny and want to baby her atleast 500-100 miles. Should I stay below 3200rpms were the hp of my VE is highest? Also I have my heatsheild off because of the Short shifter, will this do any harm?
O Yeah

O Yeah

Hey, that's great news Jon!
Did you finally get all that BS sorted out with the shop?
I have no clue, but yeah I'd personally keep it under 3000 RPM (just a guess) and generally treat it gently for a while. Matt or someone posted a break-in oil recommendation right? Can't remember if he gave time intervals too...
I think the cat gets pretty hot - hotter than other parts of the exhaust, so I wouldn't drive in heavy city traffic (little airflow) for too too long. I guess you could always touch the tunnel once in a while to see if things are heating up!

the tranny itself doesn't need a break-in period. the clutch does though. jsut drive easy on the clutch (go as high as you want in RPM, but don't shift hard) for 4-500 miles.
usually when a tranny shop rebuilds a manual tranny, they stick it back in the car and beat the pi$$ out of it to break it in..
but change your fluid after about 1000 miles.. just use cheapo stuff.. then after another 3-5000 miles, change again to your good fluid, and you shouldn't have to worry about it for the next few years.
