My roommate let me drive his car part way back from Comdex (back to San Diego). @ Comdex, we drove a new SLK on demo there. I'd hafta say his prelude has more power and seemed to handled curves/turns better. I'd choose his car. If I was faced w/choosing between my bro's 93 Max SE 5sp and the Prelude, I'd hafta think it out. Both are completely stock. Prelude has 110k miles on it. He bought it for $9000. Nearly perfect condition (paint and interior way better than bro's).
Anyways, just wanted to bring this up. It's got me thinking about preludes. Especially since it's a Honda that'll never die. Just give the vtec a lil tune up once in a while and it should be happy.
btw...friend said comparing consumer reports long term review of each, Prelude had more good red circles than the Max.

yeah but the two cars arent even really comparable. the max is a family sedan only "sporty" and the prelude is a sports car. of course the prelude will have better handling, and the maxima never claimed to have great handling, we all admit it doesnt. but as for speed, i'm not sure the prelude is faster though. depends on the engine. if its got the bigger engine (b18b or b18c, i think) it should only run around 15.3. the ve max 5spd can do that. so its just comparing two different kinds of cars. besides the max looks better.

cant fit 4 friends in a prelude comfortably either. my friend had a black 94 prelude si. he ordered tons of mods for it and before they even got to his house he totalled it.

yes...

Not to mention luggage, comfortable seating, safety, the Nissan Engine and overall good looks. I'd choose the max since handling is upgradable with new suspension, springs and struts anyway!

I'd say that the Max is a much nicer car than the Prelude. I've driven a Prelude before, and they are very nice, but not if you drive it every day. I drove the Prelude for a month when my Max was in the shop, and I was very happy to get my Max back. The Prelude was not as comfortable as my Max.....Just thought I'd add that.....

i WAS *sniff* the proud owner and racer of a 93 prelude VTEC. god rest it's soul. Look at my pics of what happened to it after it was rolled (by a kid we call numb nuts) three times. as far as the max goes, i'm lovin the bottom end that it has as opposed to my VTEC where i had to get to like 4-5 grand before the fun started. here's the site. and look at my baby max doin it's thing at the burnout spot.

Oh no flame here. Max is still the best vehicle for me from a utilitarian standpoint. I just thought his Prelude was pretty nice. I hafta agree on the 3rd and 4th passenger situation. There's absolutely no room back there. I actually hit my knee twice on the steering colomn while reaching for the brake. Good thing my gf didn't come w/us or she'd be pretty crabby in the back.
Also, we slept in his car overnight cuz we didn't rent a hotel room (too late and too expensive). His seats suck. But then again, not many car seats would feel that comfy sleeping. Oh wells.
What was it about vtecs and their engine that needed tuning up?

VTEC

I don't really like Honda Engines. I mean they last a long time and all but there's no torque in them. The whole point of Vtec is to get high rpms so you can accelerate faster, but without torque, you won't get to high rpm levels quickly anyway; Especially with a 4-banger! I prefere 6 cylinder Nissan engines, they last just as long!
