the Prelude would rape a max

Even if you had a VE 5spd with intake and exhaust that prelude with an equal driver would smoke you. The 93-96 VTEC preludes are the fastest ones, they can run 14's with just intake and/or exhaust. If your a VG, be ready to have your butt handed on a platter. Unless you add some NOS that prelude is going to win .

if you get a good jump.
Stop light to Stop light you'll win.

But if you try to drag out the race he'll win.

Unless the stop lights are like 100ft apart, I don't see how he can win. The prelude VTEC has around 160fwhp (as much as a stock 4th gen max) and weighs some 2800lbs. This car has the same power as a 4th gen but is lighter, thus the result is he will pull you. You might stay with him in 1st gear but once you hit 2nd he is gone. Sorry my friend, I love maxima's but in this case the prelude will get you .

From what I know about preludes, the vtec specs are pretty identical to the specs of a 5-speed SE. In my oppinion I think that the race could go either way. I know that the lude has the same if not maybe 5 more hp than the max but the TQ isnt even close. THey all evn out when weight comes in. I have a frieng with a 94' lude thats pretty hooked up but I think that if I had an SE 5-speed I could take it. I would just expect it to go both ways. Definitely no roadkills on this one.

if you want a faster car get a 300zx or a saleen not a 4 banger prelude my freind has a 95 vtec prelude and yes his car is faster then my max but for some reason he is always riding with me cause my car is more comfortable and doesnt sound like a p*ssed off bumble bee and the cops dont mess with us (and the girls like my car better something about 4 doors)

Torque plays a major role in stop light to stop light.
And Torque is something that the maxima has Plenty of.
That's how he'll win to certain distances from a stop.

The horsepower doesn't play a major role until later. And even then he still has a shot.
Off the line the maxima wins IF driven right.

A VTEC Prelude would destroy any VG powered 3rd gen and give a VE 5 spd with a good driver a run for its money..

The 3rd gen preludes didnt have vtec's. The highest model then is the 2.0si. They are pretty slow. One of my best friends has one. The ones that are all wheel steering are fun to drive. They handle great for a 10+ or older year car.

I raced a 92- 96 vtec before on the highway with my 93 VE....we stayed fairly even, but I pulled him at 120 mph. Those 92-96's are suppose to pull low 15's in a 1/4. My bro had a 97'prelude stock with 18" wheels...ran a 15.1 best in the 1/4.... and left me like I was sitting still off the line, but on the go I hang within 2 cars. So I believe the ve 5spd can give the 92-96 vtec prelude a hell of a run. As far as handling goes....duh...prelude...

Don't the VTEC ludes have 190hp? There are some 160hp models, but they just have a stock 2.3L DOHC engine. The VTEC engines are 2.2L but jump up to 190 horsees.

Alright I got off my butt, from the pages of Car and Driver

0-60 1/4 mile top speed 70-0 braking skidpad
'93 Prelude VTEC 6.5 15.1 137 181 0.86
'93 Maxima SE 5spd 6.7 15.3 135 185 0.78

So to me, all those numbers are dead even (except skidpad), there's always gonna be a variable of +/- .2 or so.
