This has happened numerous times...roughly once a month. The shifter gets stuck in reverse. I can push the clutch all the way down, partially down, or just 2", but shifter still will not budge. No amount of hand force will push it out. We always come to a full stop before shifting into reverse. There is a trend though...we can get it out of reverse if the front of the car is lower than the rear, such as exiting a driveway head first...which leads us to believe that something that's supposed to be moving, isn't (maybe actuated by a spring that's lost it's springiness?)

Has anybody else experienced getting locked into reverse? I know George said he did but had the dealer fix it under warantee, so he's not really sure what the problem was.

Any help and/or suggestion is appreciated, cuz I don't have a cell phone and if I get stuck and can't get it out...i'm screwed! Thanx all!

that's happened to me a couple times. I actually had a bad wheel bearing, and since I've changed it, that hasn't happened again. don't know whether that's coincidence or the actual remedy...
mine got stuck once, and I couldn't move the car at all. shifter wouldn't budge, and the car wouldn't move at all. car was facing downhill too.

finally I got out of the car and grabbed the left front tire and rocked it back and forth. after a few "rocks", I heard something click and the car was back to normal.

that happened to me year before last.i had my trans overhauled with new bearings a week before nopi.while i was in atlanta my car got stuck in reverse,we tried everything from removing the linkage to adding gear oil.the tow truck comes and lifts up the front of my car and it pops out of gear.i called the guy and he said he did not know what was wrong.i thought i was going to have to leave it down there at my brothers house but i drove all weekend including back to maryland without putting my car in reverse,when i got back and he took the trans apart it took him 2 days to figure out he had put the 5th gear/reverse rod in backwards upon rebuilding it.and he had done five other maxs the same way.never had the problem after that but it did start spraying gear oil out of the hose that comes from the trans and curves up top near the intake hose.
