Help for my engine

I found there is some terrible noise in my engine during acceleration.
I check it in Firestone. The guy said I need replace the motor(cost at least $1500).
Then I go to a Nissan Dealer(Armory) Service. They said replace the VTC Gears and Rear Manifold($1435+660+tax).
It is really a big buck for me
Anyone can give some advice to me, a poor maxima newbie(I only drive my 93 maxima SE for two months, faint)
