Getting a 92 SE tomorrow.!!

Sup guys!

I'm ArcticMax from the 5th gen. forum.. I have an appointment tomorrow to look at a white 92 SE auto, fully loaded. If the car is in good shape, i'm gonna get it on the spot. The guy is asking $3900, and it has 100,000 miles. I looked around, and I'd say that's a good deal, right?

Also, how serious is the VVTC proplem on the SEs? Is it something that needs to be fixed immediately?

My family alreday has a 4th gen, and a 5th gen.(me). It looks like we will have all three generations.

Also, does anyone have a picture of a Black SE? I think the 3rd Gens. look the best, it is sort of like a BMW. And a Black 3rd gen. SE, oh my Gosh, it is unbelievable.

So, if anyone has a Black one, please post pics.
Thanks.

You want black VE pics? see my homepage....how come u want black pics if youre getting a white? (btw check Aaron92SE he has a nice white VE) With the VTC just listen up for any peculiar ticking noises from the engine; i have about 100k on mine but i believe the previous owner had the VTCs rebuilt.

I have a white 92 SE loaded with leather, and a black 93 SE loaded with leather, but no pics yet.

The VTC's will get noisy - I replaced mine in the 92 at 115k. It now has 205k on it with no problems. My 93 has 117k now, with no engine noises as of yet. From what I've read about them, the major problem is noise - they don't cause any mechanical damage. If you can put up with the noise I'd wait to replace them. It's about a $1200 job.

Good luck with it - I love my cars.

So I met this guy to look at the Max.

When I talked with him over the phone, he said it was a private car. When I met the bastard, it turns out he was a used car salesman. He made the ad look like a private ad to lure people. He said his wife drives the car, but the car had dealer tags on. I asked him why it had dealer tags, and he gave some bull**** story. I aksed him what he does for a living, and he hesitated and said he works at some place. I met him at Hyattsville, MD, and there were about 30 used car dealers within a one mile radius. That place was unbelievably ghetto. He wanted to meet me at some ghetto restaurant parking lot, so I wouldn't figure out he was a used car dealer.

Anyway, 92 SE was a piece of ****. The interior looked like it's been sitting on the bottom of the ocean. The trannny was dying. And the engine felt like it only had 100 hp. The car was a total junk. It wasn't even worth running through Carfax. He wanted $3900. He said it was a firm price. I said thanks for showing the car, but I'm not gonna buy it.

The search continues.....

Keep looking. I just got my 92 max a few month ago. It had 62,000 miles on it. the owner wanted $6800. I was cautious, but i bought it for 6400. I had to do some minor fixing though. I had a 90 max and I had no problems with it.

I had silver 92 SE, with 110.000k miles, sold it for $5500, no probs w/ this car at all, then got 93 SE dark blue from my mom, had it for a while, start having bunch of probs with suspension, sold it also for $5500 with 105.000miles. But both were fun cars back then!

I guess I got my max at a good price then. I thought 6400 was expensive. I double check with the mileage to make sure it was original.
