"FACTORY CUT" LOWERING SPRING Question
"FACTORY CUT" LOWERING SPRING Question
i see on many peoples' websites that they have lowered their cars with "factory cut" springs. what does this mean exactly, and how can one do it?
I think they mean
they cut, or heat the spring untill it softens annd the weight of the car pushes the heated springs down, lowering the car, and when they cool they are smaller. Its really a cheap way and not great for your ride. we did a cougar that one of my friends was selling, lowered it about 3 inches, its probably lower now.lol just get springs and do it the right way.

Don't cut the factory springs, by no means should you think of heating the springs. If you heat the springs you'll have a huge bill to deal with. The springs will never be as strong again, they will weaken more and more and lower the car more and more, the ride becomes more bouncy, you ruin your struts. Now you have to replace the springs and struts, all 4! thats damn expensive.
Now lets say that someone is pretty stupid and drives around like this with weak springs and struts, the car hits a nice bump, puts a hole in the oil pan, the fool doesn't realize anything happened , the oil drains out, the fool continues to drive, engine is dead. Now he needs to replace the engine, plus get 4 springs and 4 struts. Price: It's better to buy another car. Probably around $2,000 in repairs.
Something else that could happen on a nice bump is that this fool could punch a hole into an exhaust pipe or easily wreck the muffler. 4 struts, 4 springs, exhaust work, labor charges. Price: Easily over $1000
Buy proper lowering springs and some good struts. The car is very front heavy, you can probably get away with new stock struts in the rear, but up front you need really good struts or you'll pay the price. Lowering the car is pretty nice, but do it properly or you'll go into debt behind a car.
